I've been searching for pictures or more information on painting the roof black and how people feel about it. My girlfriend does not like the idea because it reminds her of the scion c, my brother says its a good look for mercedes do it. what do you guys think?

If you read this and have done it can you post pictures and tell me how much you spent? I'm going to drop my car of on Thursday to get it done. The guy of course would not discuss pricing with me on the phone, i just need to get an idea of what good deal and a rip off range is.

why should you care what your brother or your gf thinks...it's your car, if you like it, do it. on a side note, i would try vinyl instead of painting so if you end up not liking it, you can take it off

i'm getting it painted. i thought of vinyl but to be honest i'm not sure i have the patience, the car might end up with dents and scratches before i'm done. i have seen it on a few other peoples car and have wanted it, im sure i will love it. I like the scion c and love the merzedes. do you guys know about how much it SHOULD cost?

Well I got the vinyl because I wanted something I could take off. But now I want to get it painted lol.. cuz its shinier painted.. So if the vinyl ever gets old I will remove it and paint it.. btw.. the vinyl cost me 120.00 bux installed.. thats cheap tho because I got the hookup.. usually should be around 200-300.00.. paint should also be anywhere from 300-500.00 .. Thats the quotes I was getting..

But here is how mine looks.. There are a bunch of people who have done it on here..

thanks bzyrice. that looks awesome, every time i see a dropped car i wish i did not have snow in ny. I know a friend who works for a body shop, i asked him for a hook up he said he will see what he can do but times are hard so it wont be a HOOK UP. I'm hoping to keep it about 400 or less. I know if i spend time shopping i can get that so if he doesn't come through it will have to wait until i find the right price.

Yah the roads up north SUCK .. lol .. FL has some nice roads.. so no problems here with lowered cars usually..

before you take it to the shop remove the XM antenna.. you can do this by removing the rear map lights and getting to a bolt back there.. big pain in the arse.. but well worth it.. maybe that can save you some money since they won't have to remove it.. Just make sure they dont forget to paint it! lol

Damn nice drop. I wish I could put some Tein Basics or Tein SS, but places I go in Texas are problematic! Bumps, potholes, and stupid drivers that either park too close to my bumper or too close to my sides.

Its the one mod I get the most comments about. My mum hates it, but other than that I have only received good comments. I paid 150.00 for paint and did it my self.

I went to the Acrua dealer to look at the 09 a while back and the sales people all came out to check out my car. One was telling the other how he loved the glass roof. The other said its not a glass roof its called a panoramic roof. Then another said TL's don't come with panoramic roof's.

I have owned this car since 2004 and I still cannot stop looking at it when I can see it out a window. I think you will love the black roof. It makes the car look lower because it draws your eyes down the car.

wow voigt. thanks for the pictures. that looks awesome. i wish i could get mine done for 200. it seems like it will end up costing about 350. did you also paint the front part of your body kit? or does the 04 kit come like that?

by the way voigt the contrast between the roof spoiler and the black roof looks great. where did you get it from?

I got a quote of $500 from one shop and $200 from another. I think $200 is too cheap due to the amount of work involved but $500 is high... oh well Im doing it anyway

the 04-06 aspec kit has the grey accent on both the front and back, but it looks like he painted his black.

I would say go vinyl if you want flat black otherwise just paint it. I painted my roof black a few months ago and love it!

Was definitely my first mod 2 years ago and still looks great i say go for it...oh and painted looks the best IMO

The car with the roof spoiler is not mine. I didn't paint my a-spec kit and I am glad I left it grey. I have seen other cars that did it to match the roof and it draws too much attention there. I like the difference. Where ever you get it done make sure they use a good clear coat. You will get scratches and swirls really fast if you go with a cheap clear.

i was in love with this idea for a while and took my car to a shop that seems to do great work (and always has nice cars in the lot) and they quoted me $250, and said they would remove the weatherstripping and sunroof, sand down the roof, and prime/repaint black and said what kind of paint they use. telling me that was one of the best paints out there (which i have no idea). said he is quite familiar with TL's too. so maybe look around and you might find a price like this.

Its not flat black ... more like a satin and gloss but mine does shine.

I wonder if you could maybe get a BMW style fin in black to replace it?

^^ i dont think the guys in canada have the bump...i think the others either painted theirs or bought a NBP one

got it done. picked it up yesterday. i feel like its a new car, the shop did a great job to. i just need a spoiler for the back window now.
