Black license plate screws - where to get them?

Topic says it all. I have black '06 Acura TL and live in Illinois (front and back license plates).

I have those brass ones but would love install black ones to match the color of the car.

I tried AutoZone, Advanced Auto Parts but could not find the right size.

Anyone knows where to get these?

Thanks

agi

WOW, that's great. I'll go to Lowe's and look for them. You don't happen to know what the measurements or brand were, do you?

I took my brass ones in and this was the closest fit I could find. Their competitor didn't have anything.

Just a thought that the black SHCS will probably rust in a salty environment, unless you can find them in stainless steel.

SHCS is socket head cap screw. No I don't believe they are stainless ( because they are black ), however Sacramento isn't a salty environment, so I'm not really worried about them rusting.

Another thing to consider is looking for theft resistant screws.

yeah its something to consider. somebody already stole my front tags and replaced them with black lettering 'thats my story officer, and i'm sticking to it'

These for example

http://store.aumauto.com/anliplfa.html

Not sure if they'll fit though. Wal mart had a set, but they didnt fit my custom frame.

I gave up on trying to find a match and painted mine. Did it back in early Mar-06 and they still look good .

I use Zinc M6 hex cap screw from grainger with a stainless washer. They were $6 bux for 25. only used 4. I also use a rubber gromet to prevent plate vibration.

I use to have black ones found at lowe on my old integra but one rusted in place. Its not a fun removal. I would avoid the uncoated steel ones.

I went to Lowes but the numbers you gave me were some other screws that would not fit for sure.

Are you sure those are the screws you are using in your '06?

Let me know

On my WDP 06, I got a set of theft-deterrent (tamper-proof) stainless M6x25 tag screws from Advanced Autp Parts. I had to grind about 10 mm of it down, but looks great. I seem to remember that they had gold and black ones also.

By 'Their Competitor', you mean Home Depot, right?
They hardly ever have what ever I'm looking for, doesn't matter what.

Unfortunately, there's no Lowes around here.

1) Pep Boys has small packs of plate frame screws next to the aftermarket license plate frames here in SoCal. I bought a set for the Odyssey (which has a black license plate frame). Stocking practices differ in chain stores: Pep Boys sells several brands of wiper blades, but only one brand of wiper inserts-- none fitting the Odyssey or TL-- while Auto Zone here sells a couple of brands of inserts as well as several types of blades. Try calling the stores by phone before going there.
2) Some plate frames at the auto parts stores, Target, etc. have flat covers over recessed bolts, if you want to switch frames.
3) If you use the steel bolts from Lowe's, you can put some clear-coat on the heads to keep them from rusting.

The ones I was looking at at Lowes were stainless steel but they were too long for the back (worked fine for the front). Seems like the back ones have special holes or something and the ends have to be narrow a bit.

Who would have thought there is going to be such a problem to find a screws for the plates

After reading this string, I went to Lowes, but they were out of this particular size (as usual !). Went down the road to Home Depot, and they have 6mmX16mm
cap screw, which fits the rear of my '05 NBP perfectly.
However, my fronts are more of a sheet metal screw type, so I have decided to paint them and see how they work.

Yes I'm sure, that is the size. Did you look for SHCS? Mine are made by Hillman.

Yeah, I have both just down the street from each other, so I usually check both.

I'm only using these on the back. I don't have a front plate.

If they will fit the back, then will fit the front for sure

I'm going to go back to Lowes as I now have more info (ie. brand name) from you.

Thank you so much again ...

I finally got someone to help me and found the screws you are talking about. They only fit the bottom of the plate (I use no frame) but not the upper holes. They fit the front well as well.

BTW, I had to use a special wrench to screw them in.

Still looking then ...

I really like my plastic ones, I dont have to worry about rust and they work with my black caps to cover them and make it neat looking... I believe they were $1.75 for the plastic bolts/screws.

Do they fit the upper holes and bottom holes of the back license plate? And where did you get them and how are they called (name, measurements, etc?)

Thanks!

Ok, I found the package. They are Nylon fasteners that says on the package that it will fit "most import cars". The size is 6mm x 25mm and it is made by Cruiser Accessories. They also have a website www.cruiserframes.com. Try looking on ebay for them.
