a bit of a disappointment in my TL :(

well as much as i love my TL, i ran it today against a 05? 06? Accord Coupe V6 and got pull on right off the line all the way to the end. I am bone stock as of now and have an auto. The accord is also a auto. the accord has intake and exhuast, and is running on TL rims. only mods it has i believe. I know the accord coupe is lighter too but i expected much more of the TL. The accord and the TL have similar motors, will a exhaust and intake do alot in boosting its performance?

I ran about even with a older 98 Accord V6 sedan

Anyhow, I just got my car not too long ago. idkk.. is there something wrong with my car? or is this the daring truth about the TL's performance.. btw... i hate the TL's 4th gear.

[Disclaimer: I do not endorse street racing in any way.]

thats obvious you wouldn't win... the av6 has full topend mods... so you'd get beat by atleast a car... if it were stock for stock you'd have half a car length

ps. the tl is just a hilux version of the accord... so you can't expect to flat out win

You used sport shift right? If your talking bout exhaust and intake, you might be looking at a addition 20whp.

Weight plays a HUGE factor in races such as this. HUGE. Plus the added mods. Typically exhaust and intake doesn't do much, but considering the av6 and ua6 are almost identical (with the prior being lighter), mods make a "huge" difference!

I know people say the base model 5at is slow but damn. Didnt know the lower end Accord models can beat them.
A friend of mine has an 05 base 5at. I remember one time he said the car is a complete dog.

yeahhh i was pretty sure it could beat at least a 6th gen accord V6 sedan by quite a bit. but i was proved wrong. it barely hung on.

i ran both these accords from a 40 roll, 30 roll, and a dig. . several times to make sure. The 5AT transmission on the TL does its j32 motor no justice. I know this from driving my coworkers TL 6speed today, completely different story. makes me wanna do a conversion on my car, haha.

makes me wonder why honda designed quicker tranny for the 7th gen accord v6, though it doesnt have sport shift. i know weight played a big factor, but seeing how that accord took off and accelerated, i think it also has a much quicker tranny. at 65-80 mph, the accord was still getting farther ahead... -___-

the TL has a bit larger motor, a 3.2L V6 producing 258hp, which i thought would make up for the weight difference a little bit. The accord has a 3.0L V6 SOHC w/ 240hp? His acceleration was really quick compared to the TL's. He was still gaining distance and speed at around 70-80 mph.

don't forget, we weight a hole lot more than an accord, we also have more suspension mod and frame stiffness from the factory as well.

anyone can go fast in a straight line, it's when the road starts to bend, is where the skilled driver will shine.

if i remember the accords have a 18mm front sway bar and a 13mm rear sway bar.. i've had guys ask me for my stock 17mm bar

Outside the NSX, they are not really fast cars. The new Accord coupe is pretty fast too. Don't worry about it they have similar engines what did you expect

My buddy used to have an 04 Accord coupe V6 6spd. Thing was pretty darn quick for an Accord. He even took it to the dragstrip and ran a respectable 14.0 at like 99.7mph the car was stock on stock 17" wheels and michy tires.

That car would also easily pull on GT mustangs (not that GT's are super fast or anything haha).

I also have a question regarding the auto tranny in the Type S now. I believe the auto Type S has a different tranny thats based on the RL. Does this mean that the automatic Type S's dont suffer as badly from this as the base model TL's?
I have had both a base 07 auto and now a 07 auto Type S and I will say I do like the tranny feel in the S better.

I got my ass handed to me by a Mustang GT, and it was the old model too.

I know people say "who cares about straight line performance, it's in the twisties that the car really excels" but the fact is 99% of the time on the street when you run against someone it's in a straight line.

I'm thinking of buying something faster like a 335 or S4.

Huh the twisties? The 335 or S4 will only extend the lead!

i don't quite know the difference, but i for sure know that the type-s transmission is different than the bases. i wonder, do you have BOGGING problem in 4th? (hard shift to 4th from top end of 3rd)

These cars are not race cars.. If you wanted something fast and easlily moddable then u should have looked else where.. I just got flamed to hell for saying the 2G tl was slow... When are people gonna listen w/o bashing me..

Well I guess there are always some really clueless people out there but I dont think there is much involved when racing when the car is automatic.

idkk.. i know other cars will be quicker.. but we're comparing honda to honda here. the base tl 5at is pretty much slower on by every other v6 honda out there.. the Si will probably take a few car lengths on a base TL 5at. anyhow... the TL motor still has alot of potential. The 6speed base TL is quite a bit quicker. Honda hasnt quite gotten the auto tranny thing down yet.. didnt know this when i bought the TL. Drove a IS350 recently, and it only comes in automatic only, but that thing hauls ass. Lol but i still love my car, but now leaning towards the looks department of the car, "VIP." haha.

you almost lost/tied to a 98 accord?

i beat them by a car length at the track... and im stock and auto in a 2nd GEN TL-P

and whoever gave the idea to use SS ... you dont use sport shift in a straight line race with an automatic car. you let the tranny run its course.

nobody in here can use SS and consistently hit a "sweet spot" in each gear to improve timing.. if anything it will slow you down b/c your not shifting at the correct time.

so does this mean b/c of the 3rd Gens weight its actually slower then a second gen 3.2?

b/c from the description of these races hes runnin slower then us 2nd gen guys in the auto class?

yeah i think the 3g base TL is slower than a 2g TL.. might keep with a base but will def. lose to 2g TL-S. The base 3g 5AT is just that slow.. heavy and weak acceleration.. but a 6speed 3g base is almost like a whole different car.. its much faster and will probably win against a 2g base or type-s, dont take my word for it (purely assumption).

strange.. whats the base run in the quarter?

2nd gen TLP's are right in mid 15's.. mine was 15.45 at its best.. stock auto 4 speed with 175,000 miles

close to the same for the 3rd gens?

i just looked it up. Someone ran a 14.59 with a stock 3g TL-P w/ 5AT.
Strange... does VSA on or off make a big difference? cause i had it on during the run. forgot to turn it off.

another guy ran 14.1 w/ a base 3g TL 6MT w/ intake and exhaust. SORTA big difference there.

Having driven the 3G TL 5AT (base) a few times and owning an 07 AV6 5AT, I would say they are even when it comes to acceleration. That said, BOTH should lay some hurt on the 6G AV6. Period.

And the 6MT TL is quite a bit quicker than the 5AT.

theres no such thing as a "drivers race" on two automatic cars

a monkey with one arm could mash the gas and steer the car straight. (maybe)

I personally like being able to beat speed crazed nutjobs though traffic by having much better "situational awareness"....

There's nothing quite like the feeling of seeing a case of vehicular "arrested development" blast past in the far right lane and almost rear end a bus.... ;-}

Dude . . I hope you are just kidding because there is such a thing with automatics. I see it all the time . . . I'm always teaching some rookie at the track and by the end of the night we'll have knocked a 1/2 sec or more off their 1/4 times . . . it's also why I love to race techinically faster cars and win becuase most drivers think you just punch the gas and go . . .

On the track yeah you need a little bit of sense with the automatic. But on the streets, just mash the damn pedal
