A better car horn?

I'm not very fond of our horn, it sounds kinda weak imo. :annoyed: Has anybody upgraded the horn to something that commands a little more respect?

estabro 04-20-2011 04:34 PM

Go honk the horn on a 2000-2005 mitsubishi eclipse..... all high pitched and super weak. I find the horn in our car above average

My horn is better than a lot of trucks i have been in. I don't find it weak at all. Maybe there are differences between the years.

Thanks to this thread I have spent the last 10 minutes on youtube listening to horns.

I might have found Boston's biggest idiots:

KillerG 04-20-2011 08:24 PM

jesus, a thousand dollars for that horn?

If you are willing to pay a grand for someones attention, you might as well drive your car straight into em and physically tell them whatever you wanted to warn them about.

Repairs will be cheaper than the horn

CLtotheTL32 04-20-2011 08:43 PM

Go honk a horn in a G35. I fart louder than that thing.

Stepien20 04-20-2011 09:05 PM

people still use horns?

It's so low brow and simplistic, but for some reason that was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long, long time. I am crying with laughter!

navarretg 04-20-2011 10:07 PM

Theres 2 guys in nyc who have bully horns or something, Peter did my lights and demonstrated his horn to me. Let me tell you, that horn will get any drivers attention!!

but back to leedoggs question...IMO the only way to have a "loud" horn...is air..I have experience with this horn too, cant beat it for the money...http://www.hornblasters.com/products...train-horn-kit

but then you have to factor in fittings, compressor, tank, relay, pressure switch.. etc. Itll end up costing around $500. Then where to mount them(everything...horns, tank, compressor) is a whole new obstacle. The hadley horns navarretg posted up are decent in real life too. We have them on some of my Fathers wreckers.

I have yet to see any real decent 12v horns...:annoyed:
maybe someone else has found a decent 12v horn??

i think i have seen a kit for less then that though, but yes it is going to cost a couple of hundred at least to get a air horn on the vehicle though
and yes the next concern is mounting the components on the car, which is alot less forgiving then the open reality space like a truck has

as far as a decent 12v horn, just look at the air horns that use a 12v compressor to recharge the system

estabro 04-21-2011 07:04 AM

I wouldn't mind adding a secondary "WOOP-WOOP" siren that sounds like this: http://www.mobiles24.com/downloads/s...en_-_woop_woop

HEAVY_RL 04-21-2011 07:09 AM

I use a wolo bad boy (link) horn on my bike, for the money you cant go wrong.

justnspace 04-21-2011 07:33 AM

for all the people suggesting train horns....REALLY?

get a hella horn and be done with it.
and like friesm said, it adds a bit of sexyness, if the horns are visible.

KaMLuNg 04-21-2011 08:32 AM

u should hear the horn on my corolla...

jda123 04-21-2011 10:14 AM

Dixie air horn from the General Lee, or you are weak.

Are you a cabbie? Who else uses their horn?

Had this in my previous car....produces a very nice ear piercing sound to whoever you want to honk at

yea, but the other kits arent the same as this one..trust me ...this is about as close as you can get to a nathan, or a leslie, without actually having a nathan or leslie. Hell, even truckstops sell airhorns...usually cheepos though.

All airhorns use a 12v compressor....IIRC autozone has a setup that doesnt even require a tank, pressure switch, etc...But that stuff is necessary once you get to the bigger setups.

Dino81 04-21-2011 12:40 PM

[quote=justnspace;12885983]for all the people suggesting train horns....REALLY?

if you want something loud, that "commands a little more respect"....yes, really.:toocool:

And yea, 1k is pretty steep, but u can find them used on ebay and shit.... and c'mon guys, we drop 4k on rims and tires, 1k(or more) on coilovers, catbacks, etc....would I put a nathan on my TL? but it all depends on what you want. and BTW, those videos dont do the trainhorns any justice..Once I heard them in person, I had to have it....

For comparison, listen to a freight train next time, those are the same exact horns, only difference is they are running about 90psi, and with an on board air system, you'd be running anywhere from 150-200psi:tongue:

Souljah 04-21-2011 12:59 PM

train horn ftw

7twenty7 04-21-2011 01:38 PM

Why buying an expensive horn. Instead, get this bumper sticker:

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm28/jab_au/horn.jpg

JORTS 04-21-2011 01:58 PM

the factory horn and alarm system on my '98 CL is amazing....wish acura continued using that...very loud...
