i have heard chevrons techron is the best and shells v-power is 2nd what is really the best and mobile gas stations are they any good i live in socal and the gas prices for mobile gas stations are always 20-40 cents more per gallon then others.
Is there a difference at all?

It's all a marketing scheme. All gas is gas, as long as you get the premium unleaded, it should be more or less the same.

I'm a victim of the marketing, however, as I always get Chevron - only because of Techron (which just sounds delicious ).

Mobil is great too. Then again, ExxonMobil and Chevron are top guns in the industry...

what does mobil have that chevron doesnt? i really dont think mobl it worth the extra 20-40 cents more unless it is going to make a difference i do know they make good oil...lol

There is no best. I go to Chevron or Shell. Whatevers cheaper or more convenient.

Search "Top Tier gas" here on AZ or elsewhere on the 'net-- that should be sufficient info to work with. I don't think there's a large difference between brands-- just minor differences in additives.

Pricing is not a function of brand, BTW-- sometimes Chevron is more than Shell and Mobil, or vice-versa, depending on area.

OP I always use either Shell or Costco 91 premium fuel. I have noticed I tend to get more miles to the tank using these too gas stations. I have used Chevron but would seriously get 240-253ish compared to 260-290(shell/costco). So I kinda buy into their marketing, but be sure to use the best quality motor oil for your car,that plays a part in it as well.

My accord runs 87octane and although I'd like to use 91 octane I don't see my car benefitting from it

I use Shell V-Power but only because I get 10 cents off per gallon thanks to my Ralphs card. I know it's not that much off but hey, it's still paying a fraction less...and gas in Los Angeles is pretty pricey right now.

Not from the area, but go to school here, and well I always fill it up and reset before I start the car, so those are my numbers from driving mainly freeway to and from school. but I am pretty conservative with my driving habits, to add I take the same route every day.

You might have luck with getting the most out of Shell even with its higher price than Chevron

Both of them are the biggest oil companies on the Fortune 500 so they both produce great gasoline. I don't have a Shell near where I live, but I know Chevron is just straight ballin'...

I would look for ethanol-free gas. It is much more efficient and counter to its purpose, better for the environment and your engine. It burns more efficiently and so you get better miles per gallon. Plus, you're not buying gas that drives up the cost of food by the synthesis of corn into ethanol.

I just fill up at whatever gas station I pass on my commute to work. With my current commute the only one I pass is a Mobil. Previous commute there was a Chevron that I always went to. I have noticed no difference.

Sorry even if that's possible, there are like 5 in CA and all in Norcal so no point really for the Socal peeps to try and go for ethanol-free. but great for other to check their state, since my OP and I live in SoCal doesn't do much good.

I was referring to the first sentence in which companies like Sams/Costco isn't as good as Shell or Chevron.

Yup. And Oregon, too. The story I heard for Oregon was that some state senator's asshat of a son was smoking while filling up and he blowed himself up. He blowed himself up real good. ive been to oregon and the 1st time i filled up up there i get out my car and the dude was like wtf i told him to get out my way cuz at that time i didnt know any better we had an argument for a bit i didnt believe him then when he said
that we were not allowed by law to pump our own gas there i looked it up and sure enough it was true...you can also tip them and they wash your windshield while you wait but i still like to pump my own gas

WTF?! So it's just Oregon AND NJ? Why would you pump gas while smoking a cigarette? EPIC FAIL.:shakehead There's a reason why they put warning labels on the pump, but it doesn't matter. It's not the first time someone has done the same. I've seen people smoking while pumping gas before.:shakehead

The Top Tier Gas website is a marketing website which the oil companies have to pay to have their name added. I've worked for a major oil company for over 25 years. All the base stock gasoline is all the same and exchanged between all oil companies. The only difference is the additive which is added when the tanker truck is loaded. All gasoline has some form of additives. All the rest is just marketing. Buy your gas from whichever station is the closest and cheapest. There is no major advantage or mileage increase from any brand, including the one I work for.

I do agree that Shell has better gas even though its $.20 more a gallon than others. When I did pump Sunoco for my car, 07 cbp tl s, she registers avg 180ish miles every time, then when I pump Shell it registers over 300 miles a tank which I don't get driving in the city %90 of the time.

i went to this gas station once and this guy was driving a trunk smoking drove into the gas station that i was pumping my gas got out the car and started to pump his gas i automatically stop pumping and drove away QUICK

All gasoline comes fromt the same reserve. As a matter of fact the same truck literally goes to fill up different gas stations and I've seen this with my own eyes watching the same truck fill up a BP I was at then going across the street to a Shell.

The only difference is in the additives they use. So if you go with a no name .. COSTCO or DELTA or whatever other company.. they are just selling you the gas minus the additives which correlates to your savings of 20 cents per gallon maybe.

Me personally... I've noticed that getting the no additive added gasoline results in a lower mpg and power feel which results in trying to compensate with the gas pedal which ultimately results in more frequent trips to the gas station. So rethink that 20 cents (even if that) cost savings.

I stick with BP in NY because I feel that gets me the most power and MPG ... but I did achieve more MPG with Shell.. just a little less power. But out of all them... Chevron to me felt the best in throttle response and was on par to BP's MPG that I'm accustomed to achieving.. however I just don't have access to Chevron here in NY by me.

Additives are not a myth.. they do work... maybe they are over hyped and exaggerated.. but they do add some benefit for the extra 20 cents you pay on the gallon.

I use Costco fuel and Shell, I get way more miles to the tank compared to chevron or 76 or other no named stations. I have not suffered a performance issue with using Costco fuel. My car works fine and runs great.
I understand the additives will determine performance and fuel efficiency for our cars, but Costco is cheaper but equally works fine like Shell fuel.
