I'm on the market for a 2-ton floor jack...what brand does everyone recommend to lift their 3g TL?

 

though I don't own it yet this will be my next jack

Work good so far, used it 3 times much easier then using the compact ones.
Maximum Lift Height (in.) 19-3/4 in. I got it for $85 last week, cant beat that.

Think the 2 ton above lift a little higher Maximum Lift Height (in.)
23-3/4 in.

Also they are very heavy, so if weight a factor might want to look into the Aluminum one.

 

The 2 ton one I linked is nice cuz it has a really long reach and is super low to the ground. Makes it easy get to the front jack point when lower with a front lip or something. I have a 3 ton from Sears now and it's a huge PITA on a lowered car.

 

I second this. Bought one of these two years ago on a sale and couldn't be happier with it.

 

Heres mine, Craftsman 2 ton. Got it from Sears many years ago. Its great, its very light and low profile. Worked perfectly even on my C6 Z06 that had an extremely low front end. Goes to its highest position in only like 3 pumps. I don't remember what it cost me, but probably wasn't the cheapest jack.

 

i have the same one in the link from harbor freight. And I LOVE it!!!! Its just heavy as hell. The long reach comes in handy for sure. At my right height though, i still have to drive up on my old rotors to get it to fit under though lol

 

90 day warranty would scare me.

 

HF tools are pretty good and I own quite a few, but the jack is not one of them I own. I bought a Costco floor jack and it's great. I wouldn't let the warranty scare me- there are cars that come with 90 day warranties too and people seem to buy them. Spending $150 on a jack is hardly a huge outlay to worry about.

 

I bought one of these beasts on sale for $75 OTD at my local Menards. It's been rock solid for the year that I've had it. It's not a 3 pumper though, more like a 7 pumper...

I got mine at Harbor Freight. It's the low profile, extra long 2 ton version.

 

I got mine years ago at Sears. It's a Craftsmen 3 Ton and has served me well for years. It's not low profile but I'm not lowered so it hasn't been a issue. Also had enough lift to get one side of our MDX in the air at a time

 

That jack is a great value. I've had one since December.

Yes it's heavy but unless you plan on transporting the jack anywhere it shouldn't be an issue.

 

^ I too have the 2 ton Harbor Freight jack and it works like a charm, I've had it for over a year and use it a lot. It's heavy but it's designed to lift 4000 lbs so I feel that's a fair trade.

I also bought one of the light aluminum versions ~27lbs for swapping out tires at AutoX.

 

I would be very hesitant to buy any jacks or jack stands from HF. It's fun to buy stuff for cheap, but not items that you rely on to keep a car from falling on you. HF's deal is cheap tools and other stuff, quality is not a big concern. Jacks that hold pressure poorly and use of poor quality metal can cause big time damage not to mention injury from failure. Jack and stands are one area no one can afford to skimp on and a good jack will last you for a very long time.

 

HF is great for the oddball tool that you need once a lifetime that will work in a pinch for cheap. Its not for a jack. Darwin will decide who's correct

 

another one to chime in about the harbor freight 2ton low pro. I have had it for almost 3 years now. Still love it. Best tool purchase Ive made I think. Especially when its on sale. IF its not, grab the 20% coupon that in every flyer in the world, and go get it lol

 

Costco jack for me as well. Can't push myself to trust HF on something like a jack.

 

I don't think anyone is taking much risk in using this jack as long as they have stands under the car. No one should be getting under any car supported only by a jack no matter what the quality is. That is my anyway. Personally I would just buy a better one because I wouldn't want to have to replace it later if it were to fail.

 

as far as the quality goes Habor freight is heavier and heavier to pump compare to the Craftsman jack, my brother has the craftsman and I have the HF.

 

Uh, a jack isn't to support the car, only to lift the car. Jack stands are for supporting the car. No one should ever get under a car that isn't support by jack stands....

 

This is what I use. It's light and durable at the same time. It's from costco.
And NEVER use a jack as a support! A kid in the car scene just last week was crushed by his gs because he used 2 jacks as supports and 1 gave out. Be safe and use jack stands.

 

i have a low pro aluminium one from harbor freight.

I used to own the steel version, but sold it.
I enjoy the light weight aluminium jack a whole lot better.

in terms of lugging it around, it's a breeze!
I even can carry it in the trunk on a road trip




however, it does take some muscle to pump the car up.

When working on the car, jack and jack stands go hand in hand. propping the car up on the stands is a necessary step

 

Harbor freight is the best bang per buck you'll get I think

 

What name brand or specs should I be looking for when looking for a jack. The main thing I would need it to have the height clearance in the rear to be able to put jack stands under the car. The one I have now is a 12 year POS and doesn't lift high enough in the front or the rear. Thanks guys.

 

I can vouch for HF jacks. Ive had the HF 1.5 ton lightweight/low profile jack for about 3 years now. I picked up for 50$ during some special (christmas or black friday I believe). Its really light weight and its incredibly easy to lift the car. The handle also has some padding to protect your bumper from getting scratched which is a nice touch. The only downside is that you need a small block off wood to get the rear off the ground since the arm doesn't raise high enough. The front is fine since the jackpoint is lower.

If anyone wants, I have a coupon on my fridge at home for 60$. HF will accept digital and scanned coupons no problem. I do it all the time with the 25% (the 25% off does not apply to certain items, like jacks)

 

Like some others posted, Costco has good jacks. I bought a aluminum jack from Jegs for about $120 that is high lift and has worked great for 5 yrs. Craftsman is another maker that seems to make good jacks, but like Costco can be expensive.

 

Napa also sells jacks and stands, just make sure whatever you get you keep it in good working order and check it for cracking around any of the welds on a regular basis. If in doubt replace it.

ALWAYS use jack stands when working under a car and don't work alone if you can avoid it. Sorry to sound preachy but I don't want to see anybody get hurt or crushed.

 

I have a craftsman 1.5 ton compact jack.
After draining the oil and swapping the filter, my jack failed to raise my car high enough so i can remove the stands...

 

I'm not that active on IG but I did see something about this.
I clicked on the boys page and I was saddened to see that most of his pics of his GS is only supported by a hydraulic jack.....

 

Norco makes great jacks. I have a 71232 2-ton at the shop and it has been awesome.

 

I own a Arcan XL 3.25 ton low profile jack that was purchased from Costco for $100.

The jack weighs just under 100 lbs.

 

That Costco one is nice, but heavy.

Is the Best way to jack the tl up is in the center in the front or rear and put stands on the side? Read somewhere jacking up a corner a time isnt good because of twisitng possiblities.

 

Glad to see some people using that Costco 2.5 ton steel/aluminum hybrid. I picked it up a week or two ago as a spur of the moment decision for $99.

 

I have this Costco jack as well and love it. I had the aluminum craftsman one listed above and it leaked oil like crazy after about 2 years of use.
