I've been very fortunate. Not once have I had to justify any purchases for my car (and believe me, there have been a LOT). I do my best though to keep her happy and encourage her to splurge once in a while on the items that she really wants and/or buy her jewelry.

OK I've never had to Explain Ish to my Wife when we was together. I would just go Purchase what I wanted. I was always the only one working so I didn't feel the need to explain anything... As a result, that's probably why I'm single at the Moment 
Now I really don't have to explain Ish to anyone. I do agree with some of the people that Forgiveness is easier to do then tryna explain what you what to use your money for

I make 80% of the money so I dont need to ask for permission for car purchases. However---if I do have other big purchases I do talk it over with her. I dont buy anything I cant afford though, and then some. If I did make some 10k purchase and I didnt have the money to blow I would say we would definitely have a problem in our marriage. Just as I would with her...
I sometimes still struggle with the idea of the whole "my money is OUR money"...easy for a lot of women(and some men) to say when they contribute little or no actual MONEY. Thats like when Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points in a game and another guy scored TWO and he said "We scored 102 points, me and wilt ! " lol

Wife > girlfriend... You should have seen all the crap I was ordering before my wedding. I literally had boxes of parts/mods sitting in my garage waiting to be install when I came back from the honeymoon 
Now it takes and act of Congress to get funds for modding. Unless she's got her eye on a new laptop/iphone/jewelry/shoes/granite countertops/anything from Kirklands, then that's when I make my move..... like a jungle cat with "well, if you're buying that then I need this".

If my wifey (Gf in reality, 6 years together though, wifey minus the paperwork) ever asks about my spendings on the ac, I just throw her a friendly reminder of who makes how much per year. I usually follow up that comment with something along the lines of: "Now where's my god damn lasagna". Works every time.

but nah i'm mostly kidding, i have my account...she has hers, and we also have a joint.
i buy what i want, she buys what she wants, and we save the same amount each week for the joint.
marriage may change that tho...i am in no rush.

If you're not married you have no idea how much it changes the game. My girl never said a peep before we were married. Afterwards, I have to be careful about everything. She likes to spend money, but not on "stuff" Somehow that doesn't count, but she brings up the cost of shit I bought years before we were married. Once you get married, you'll see.
