Of course! E39 LSD was $4500 installed, but checkbook approval was for $2500. 2K cash got the job done. Typically it isn't an issue at all, but the big purchases have to be done one way or another.

2k without her knowledge... no lip, no lecture. She gets nice things too so it all evens out. I keep a separate account just to buy her things. It was an agreement we had just so she can't find out about me buying her surprise gifts. It works out well and she's happy.

Wrong section buddy. lol

I havnt had to lie to my gf about how much I spend on the car... she has actually bought me quite a few things for it hahah

But when I bought the sway bar.. oh man

her: "whats a sway bar?"
me: "cuts down amount of body sway during turns"

*turns*
"I don't think its working.. return it"
"you should find something that helps you go straight"

This works well, and I do the same thing. I have a personal account that I can do whatever I want with. I have used that money to repaint parts of my Accord, get a CF hood, get the HFP suspension, etc.

I did something like that on my wife, only I got her one for her Civic.

Her: "What is this metal thingy doohickey in the engine compartment?"
Me: " It's an anti-sway bar, commonly referred to as a sway bar."
Her: "Is that like anti-gravity gravity?"
Me:
Her: "So what does this 'sway bar' do?"
Me: "Think about it. It allows you to take corners faster."
Her: "If I wanted to do that, I would use your Accord."
Me: "Yeah, but then you'd get the seat all wet."
Her: "Yeah bu..HEY! You didn't tell anyone on Acurazine that I called you about that, did you?!"
Me: "No dear."

I never have to lie about spending money on the car. I do at times however, have to 'justify' some expenditures.

hey guys

a happy wife is a happy life!

haven't heard one for a happy GF yet...

its all about compromise. as long as she gets nice things/toys...then all is good. but if she's a car chick...she'll either greatly approve or declare you justify the expense (as long as it can be afforded-if that's the case...she'll take the former approach rather than the latter).

My father always said you're either right or you're happy.

My girlfriend- even though not same as a wife, bought almost all my mods. Body kit and Type S headlights and she bought me my detailing kit that cost $300 or so.

She loves my car as much as I do. She bitches at ricey cars just like I do!

I don't have to lie, but I do like to rationalize! When I was modding my Subaru Legacy, I explained that my intercooler upgrade was to prevent the car from over heating....

I did that stuff in the past, having shit shipped to my work address and whatnot. Yet another thing that I do NOT miss about being married.

I tell my girlfriend about all of my purchases and she usually just shakes her head. It's not her money so she has no say on what I spend it on

I would still say this holds true in marriage but I know many that would not agree.

Sadly once you join bank accounts that probably doesn't hold up anymore. That's why I'm spending all of my money now

I don't have to justify any of my modding purchases to my wife.

Unless she notices.

Then it's just easier to buy her jewlery or a(nother) purse.

This was easy to settle in my house. I pay myself $50 an hour for any maintenance work done on the cars. (OK, I work cheap). My wife knows we are getting a bargain. It only took once while I was on travel and she took her car in for work and saw the price and quality for her to realize the value. An occasional reminder helps, like "I've been really busy at work, why not call the dealer to see what he wants to do the timing belt on your Lexus". So she trusts me when I say the more expensive tires are a better value (safety is important you know). The mad money I pay myself for the car maintenance can go to car goodies or anything else. An occasional detail or stereo upgrade for her car also goes a long way to alleviating any complaints.

Lies like that can be good and bad! Be careful if you have online banking or your spouse has access to your statements! You tell your spouse you spent 2K and they see a bill for 4K, someone isn't going to be happy!

Lie? Why? If I get to the point where I have to lie about something then I've already gone passed the point of err.

We like to call it our money. I can't tell her what she can and can't buy, and vice versa she doesn't tell me what I can or can't buy.
