last night when commin home from my gf house around 11pm just after getting gas at 89.5 cents W00t W00t so i pull out of the gas station and this blue whats looks like to be a neon fly's by my at about 100km it must have been turbo charged it was really loud everytime he shifted his car would make a loud hissin noise. so i catch up at the next light and its a red light.. i pull up beside him and this guy starts revin his engine i look over at him a laughed light turns green and floored it by the time i was in 3rd he was about car 2 car lengths behind me once i hit 140km i slowed down and he went flyin i couldnt make out any of the badgin on his car it looked like the neon srt 4 i think its called anybody have any run ins with these cars... was this guy trying or did i just ripp him a new asshole

SRT-4's are actually pretty fast, especially if modded or chipped. He shoulda got you unless you got some goodies under the hood. Unless it was a look alike SRT-4 which I know alot of the neon guys here are starting to do

i went to the chevy site and it was the blue colbalt supercharged and i diffently riped him a new asshole it was too funny he was tryiong to be all hot shit revin his engine i turned over to him and laughed then burnt his ass ah well i thought it would have been a little closer with the turbo charged engine.. it sounding soooo nice tho very loud

Ah the cobalts are relatively slow, even with the supercharger (205hp I believe). do you have a Type-S?

Well, just to clear somethings out for you. If it was a SRT-4, they're pretty quick especially from 2nd gear and will most likely take you if your car is stock. You never specify what kinda car you were driving when you were racing against him. Then you mentioned it turned out to be the Cobalt SS supercharged (that's a Chevy, not Dodge). They don't have loud hissin noise that a turbo would make. They actually whine like a loud high pitch tone.....
so if it was not a whiny pitch tone nor a SRT-4. Most likely you raced a Dodge Neon R/T or close to what it seemed to be R/T with crappy aftermarket Turbo.

more than likely, it wasnt the srt4 because u said it sounded nice. its loud yea...but it sounds like a garbage can rolling down a hill.

Jack, we will eat STOCK srt-4's for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But once they add a chip and a stage two intake we will be finished. Anyway it is a Neon

it was the colbalt ss... it sounded really nice would it be the turbo thats makes that sound??? what else do they have in them... i am a stock 2000 3.2tl so far.. in the process of looking into mods... too bad those cars to too slow even with all that aftemarket shit under the hood... and about the srt 4 i have raced against one and there not that bad pretty quick but i could take them in my dads 06 maxima

I dont think you would of taken a SRT-4 in a stock maxima. And as far as the sound on the cobalt SS, Im not sure if they have a bypass on there supercharger, if not they can add a blow off valve. Maybe it was one without the supercharger and he added a turbo and a blow off valve, the sound like the car is sneezing is the BOV. I mess with my friend with a SRT-4, I tell him his car has a cold and he should put it away cause it is sick. Usually happens between gear shifts.

A srt-4 would waste you if you have a stock 00 TL. I have a 99 tl w/I/H/E/P/S and few other little mods and I can't beat an srt-4. I can hang with one very close on the highway, but is the driver is any good I will lose, no question. they are fast little cars. 0-60 in 5.6 stock.

I think you're underestimating the neon a lil too much. I'm pretty sure it would beat the maxima...and the way you said it..." having no problem taking the srt4"...

You can have the fastest car in the world and cant drive it, you will loose to a go-cart. In any car its all about the driver and his skill behind the wheel. you may have raced an SRT-4 in which the driver was new and doesnt know how to drive it. Front wheel drive cars with decent power can be very difficult to drive fast in the 1/4 mile.

especially that little turbo-lag ridden 4-banger. Launch to low and bog, or launch to high and spin. And no, OttawaGuy, your trippin- a 350z would rip your dads maxima, right? I guarantee that with minor mods, an srt-4 neon will make a stock 350z look foolish for trying. Is that cool?, NO. It's actually quite gay that my car can never go as fast as some of those stupid little $20,000.00 cars do. Those cars are dumb anyways and I would never own one. By the way, my friend has one and rips my tl a new asshole regularly.

mmmm....are talking stock vs stock.....I have an srt-4 and it will kill my 3g tl (AT). a stock srt-4 puts out about 240whp and is very very light.

Not trying to beat a dead horse but a SRT4 has one purpose and that is to go fast at a cheap price. Mine went 13.7 at 100mph with just a Injen SRI and tire spin thru 1-2 gears..now it has a few more mods which increase boost. They dyno between 240 and 250whp bone stock...plus like mentioned they weigh about 2800lbs.
The meaniest car to watch out for is the SRT8..6.1L Hemi..high 12's right off the showroom floor with a good driver.
