Base subframe VS Type-S

Has anyone ever had the opportunity to compare the base subframe with the type-s?

I'm was looking at the pics from the parts website. I noticed that the rear vibration damper is gone for one. Second, theres some sort of new fabrication right where the tranny sits. Both 6MT cars share the same tranny case (21200-RAT-020) So I can't exactly figure out what that new assembly is...

Reason I'd like to know for sure if the subframes are interchangeable, is cause I'm doing some major overhauling with mods real soon. So my subframe will be coming down, and if the type-s subframe is lighter or offers any other kinds of benefits, I will try to find and purchase one. Any pertinent info is welcome!

Well im no expert but your also looking at a 4 year difference in cars. Im sure they could make some design tweaks in that time, even more so considering its common knowledge on here that 04 and 05 had known tranny problems and 06's and up didnt. (just an example of a change made during a single generation)

They are probably not interchangable. The differences are due to the fact the Type-S uses the RL engine, as well as a modified version of the RL transmission.

If you look at my first post, I pointed out that the same tranny case is being used (21200-RAT-020)..

All mounts and etd remain the same from 04-08, which is what's throwing me off..

Its not so much a bad transmission, but the syncs were horrible in the 04-05's and they can be fixed for as little as $250 plus labor for the 3/4 gear sync/gear set.

I don't see the advantage. If both are aluminum then any weight difference, if any, would be negligible.

I agree, I don't think the money and effort involved would be worth it in the end...That's nice to know about the sync/gear set though.

Could be right.. But at this point I'm mostly curious what that new assembly is. Also what the welding looks like (assuming there are improvements).

If someone with a 6SPD type-s could chime in with a few pics that would help a whole lot..

I am so glad I found this thread! So the same tranny case is being used 04-08? Meaning the two subframes have the same mounting points, correct? I am going to bring this up to my Acura dealership as they told me that the 2008 TL type-s subframe may have different mounting points for the transmission than the 2005 TL. They're using that as a reason to not fix my car under warranty. Thank you for the good info, HQTL6SPD!

I know I'm bumping up an old thread... but are the 2 parts interchangeable? Would like to know.
