B2 Maintenance Minder Service Fee

B2 Maintenance Minder Service Fee
Hey guys; recently my maintenace minder was displaying the service needed soon B2 message and I setup an appointment at my local Buerkle Acura dealership in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. When I called to setup the appointment, I asked them how long it would take to perform the service and they said about an hour and a half.
So on the day of the service, I bring the car in at 8:30 a.m. I told them I didn't want the wheels rotated because I've only had my summer wheels/tires on about 2-3 months, and I said I didn't want a car wash either because I just waxed it. They finished with my car at 9:00 a.m. on the dot and my bill was $171.23. I paid for the transaction without thinking; but now looking back on it I'm like WTF. I see that the service consisted of an oil change and checking stuff on the car, but $171 for 30 minutes of service?
Should I be pissed and go back and ask for a partial refund or something; or is this normal for B2 service? Let me know guys...

Sounds like you overpaid.
A full "B" service w/Santa Monica Acura in SoCal is $145 including tire rotation, without discounts, and my independent charged less than $100 (actually $70). The problem is that the dealership may say you asked for a "B" service and that's what you got, despite the instructions to delete the rotation. I'd argue that you received an "A" service and should pay that amount, or at least should get back a credit for the tire rotation if the dealership resists giving you a credit.
Let us know how it turns out.

I don't know how much Santa Monica Acura charges for changing the two filters (the "2" part of the "B2" service).

Sorry, I think you've been !!!
Unfortunately, my original response applies. It looks like you received an "A" service, not the "2" or "B2" service, which calls for changes of cabin and engine air filters (it's in both your manual and the Acura-link owner's site; that would probably account for additional labor cost you were charged). I would visit the service supervisor and ask to pay only for "A" service instead, or get engine and cabin air filters installed for free.

So I called the dealership today to get the low down on my strange $171.23 bill for "B2" service and here's what went down:
- I actually received "B" service because the filters weren't replaced and whatnot; and he actually said they charge like $360 for "B2" service, and that they typically don't see that message until about 30,000 miles.
- $15 was taken off for me not having them rotate the tires; the original "B" service cost was like $186 or something
- The most disturbing thing, $70 of that $170 was for a brake inspection. Are you !@#$%^& kidding me? Why would I want a brake inspection on a car that only has 10,000 miles that I know is probably at 80-90%.
- They charge flat rate fees for service; so whether it takes 5 minutes or 5 hours, it's the same cost for the service.
In the end, I got a free oil change out of the deal, but I don't like the idea of all these hidden non-itemized costs like that brake inspection. I definately didn't need that and it wasn't explained to me up front. Next time I will make sure to ask exactly I am paying for before they go ahead and service my TL.

And since when is "checking brakes" a separate $70 item??? Don't they check them on the $30-$55 "A" services as well?
Anyway, Tripp11 in the above post definitely has a better idea about getting an independent. (my "B" service was through an independent Honda/Acura specialist I've had for 15+ years. He or one of his guys visually checks brakes as a matter of course when a car is up in the air, even for $20 oil changes.)
