B1 Service

Ok, before everyone gets mad this is not a thread about "what is B1 service and should i get it done..." I have about 77K miles on my '06 TL, bought it about 1.5 years ago with 38K. Since i am due for an oil change i was thinking about going to full synthetic oil. My question is about the TL's oil sensor. Does it have an actual wear sensor for the oil or does the maintenance light come on after a certain amount of miles?

I am asking because i know the synthetic lasts longer so i am wondering if i will have to manually keep track of the intervals or if the system will recognize the time for an oil change based on actual wear? Thanks!!

system takes in account for revs, start ups, and a few more other things.
it does not take in account of what type of oil.
if you take it to redline, and drive city a lot, you'll see the oil life indicator go down faster, as opposed to keeping the revs down and driving all highways.

I'm running true synthetic..Mobile1 0w-40, which can last as long as 10k miles...According to User nfnsquared, which he has performed several UAO's noting that there has been no abnormal metal wearing in his used oil analysis.

Why not just run the filter for the full 15K and then run a UOA on it? The Acura service interval is to replace the filter every other oil change, which for most of us would be 12K-16K miles anyhow.

From my experience, the PureOne filters can easily meet a 10K interval and may very well be good up to a 15K interval. Below is the UOA on my last change with an 8100 mile interval using the PureOne filter. I'm taking my next interval to 10K on the PureOne and will run another UOA on it (at about 5K now). I'd say just run the PureOne for 15K and see what you get.

FWIW - that doesn't fly with Acura according to the Owners Manual.

The OM says, basically, "You can use synthetic - no problem - but you still need to follow the MID".

Now whether they'd actually try to hold you to that or not, who knows.

If you an extended warranty, you may want to consider sticking with the MID intervals until out of warranty.

Clarification: The UOA I posted is for M1 5w20 on an 8200 mile interval after my last oil change. I am currently running M1 0w40 and plan to run it to 10K and run another UOA, which I will post.

Generally speaking, you can run longer intervals on syn/syn blend oils than dino oils, but the MID doesn't know the difference. It will calculate the same interval based on several parameters (see your owner's manual) no matter what oil is in the crankcase.

Last question; the car has 77k on it, 50k of which i have put on. I have never changed any of the filters and i dont know if they were done before. I am going to change the air filter and the cabin filter. Anyone have any recommendations on which filters to get?

I know of K&N but i thought i read something about them not fitting properly? Any suggestions?

The K&N fits perfectly and works great. I've been running it for 110K now. Several other Azine members are running K&N as well.
