Autotrans shifting too soft with new 2006

I just purchased a 2006 Acura TL with auto trans. I am limiting my “right foot” to less than half throttle at the most until after break-in. Currently, I have 200 miles on the odometer.

The problem is that it shifts sooooo soft. Ughhhh. It shifts so soft that there is a slight momentarily drop in acceleration as the gears (clutchplate packs) overlap during the shift. Just like a family “grocery getter” car.

My other cars are a 1991 Legend (2 door) and a 1993 Legend (4 door). Even with 200,000 miles on both of these cars, both of these old worn-out Acura’s shift more firm than my new 2006 TL.

Is there a problem with my 2006 ? Is it shifting so softly because I am not into the throttle hard enough ? With light throttle, does your TL shift so soft that you feel a lag in the acceleration as the gears overlap ?

Cars nowadays want their shifts to be smooth and soft. Who wants hard jerking shifting anyways. Hard shifts means your transmission is old and news new tranny fluid. If you like the hard shifts so much you should just have bought a used car or just drive your legend. May be you should have gotten the 6 speed manual. You shift just how you like it.

But i do agree with you about the lag. In light throttle, the tranny shifts slow so the cut off in acceleration is really noticeable. But in heavy throttle, it shifts fast and more smoothly than light throttle. So yes its lagging from you giving less throttle. Try giving more throttle and you know the difference.

I would think you can talk to your service rep at the dealership and ask them about the possibility of reprogramming computer. By the looks of things Acura is being cautious when it comes to Auto trannies.
