Automatic 2007 TL Type S transmission in a 2006 TL base model?

My buddy's transmission in his 2006 TL base model automatic is slipping pretty bad. We know of somebody selling an automatic transmission out of a 2007 TL Type S for pretty cheap.

Will this 07 Type S tranny be compatible with his 06 base model?

Thanks in advance!

Okay, another question then - would the guts of the 2007 type S transmission fit inside the bell housing of the 2006 base model transmission?

Sorry for being so unknowledgable on the subject.

at that point and time, you're better off looking for a direct fit.

rebuilding a tranny cost anywhere from $1500 - 2000. and that is essentially what you would be doing...rebuilding the 2006 with 2007 internals...
it wouldnt make sense cost wise to do so.

Unfortunately not.

Well, the guy is willing to sell him the type S tranny for $500. We would be swapping internals ourselves.

that's if the internals fit into the transmission case. No one's ever done what you are proposing...

it still doesnt make sense cost wise.
sure, the tranny may be a steal at $500...but if you have to spend hours and hours and hours worth of headaches, it's not worth it

it'll be easier and cheaper to grab the correct tranny in the first place

Makes sense. Was just trying to save him some money. Thank you for all of the quick replies! Looks like we're on the hunt for an 06 base tranny!

the internals wont work with the 06 case. 07-08 (both base and type S) have a completely different tranny than 04-06

the Type S transmission is a RL variant and it is a no go in the base cars from an electrical and mechanical pov.. you would need the entire engine/trans assembly along with the ECU and associated harnesses.

Actually, a full master kit rebuild (the only type anyone should get) plus the Trans Lab shift kit which addresses the known Honda/Acura V6 automatic transmission issues is in the $2500 range. And its worth adding an aftermarket transmission cooler since the OEM design is pretty crappy. The Trans Lab shift kit made a huge improvement in consistent shift feel on my car.

Sounds like you are more knowledgeable than you say you are and want a free answer. Do some research!
