Auto Tranny Fluid Question

What is the typical time/mileage between fluid changes? I had a simple drain & refill done at 38k miles and then at around 50k miles / 18 months later the Acura dealer advised that my auto tranny filter was in bad shape and needed to be replaced. I was quite perplexed and asked the service writer why the Acura fluid would only last 12k miles. His response was that I only opted for the simple drain & refill and that I needed to opt for the power flush since some residual old tranny fluid remains in the tranny. I'm beginning to have doubts if they ever did any fluid change as the change at 38k miles only took about 15 minutes. It was a busy Saturday and when I picked up my car after having some warranty work done I noticed that they had forgotten to change the Auto Tranny fluid. Thats when the service writer sent the car back to the shop and 15 minutes later it was ready with the supposed tranny fluid changed. Any thoughts on this as I can't beleive that a simple drain and refill is only good for 12k miles. I would have expected 35k to 40k miles. Thanks for the advice.

I would find a new Acura dealer since they're suggesting a "power flush." Besides, how would they know that the filter was in bad shape?

What year is your car? The 07 and 08 have filters on the inside that can only be changed during a rebuild. The 05 and 06 have filters but I dont think they are even part of the scheduled maintenance. Find a new dealer, or replace the fluid and filter yourself.

How did they come to that conclusion?

They tested the viscosity
