auto-dimming rearview mirror . . .
Well, everyone, it's been a long time since I posted or even looked on here. once I got my 05 TL back in October, all I've been doing is driving it and enjoying it. It took a little getting used to (coming from the Audi A4), but now I can't even imagine driving anything else.
Anyway, here's just a quick question. I've noticed that when I have the auto-dimming switch on the rear view mirro active, the mirror goes pretty dark even in the daytime when there are no headlights on directly behind me. When I say dark, it goes DARK . . . not black but dark enough where it's bothersome. I've resorted to turning off the auto-dimming during the day to get good rearview visibility.
Is this a problem?
I guess I'm used to my A4 where with the auto dimming mirror, it would automatically dim if there was a set a headlights pointing into it. But otherwise, would remain normal.

TL-SHAWD 6MT Rocks!
mine behaves the same for me,
I always have it off, unless the lights are bothering me... then I turn in on.
It doesn't bother me, as it takes less than 1/2 a second.

I'm not sure if your mirror is darker than normal, 'cause I don't have an issue w/ mine. See if you can find some friend's TL, and do a compare. I had an Infiniti w/ the same feature, and under day light condition, it looks just like a normal mirror.

I would suggest keeping it off until night anyways...it works off of light sensitivity.... and when you work off of indicators like that there are always switchoffs... if the indicator is too sensitive then you will have dark mirrors, and on the other side, if it isn't sensitive enough... won't shade when you need them...
It's a 'creature comfort', so ya I would say keep it off unless you really need it. (ie.. driving on the highway at night)

I had the same problem and took my TL in for service. My wife had placed her parking pass on the back side of the mirror, which is where the sensor is located. Once we removed the pass the mirror worked fine.
