Attn ACURA:

Your batteries are crap and suck. In 2008 the dealer replaced the battery in my 2007 TLS and said the ORIGINAL battery was shot. Now today at 4:00am I had to drive up to Boston for business and Click, Click, Click! DEAD BATTERY!! So then I had to jump in my 98' accord with 250,000 miles, transfer all my stuff and leave & it doesn't have GPS, I had to printout mapquest, and of course I got lost.
I called the dealer & they said NO WARRANTY because I didn't pay for the replacement battery! Between the Power Steering hose blowing off while driving, motor mounts breaking TWICE, CD player being replaced because it ate my Talking Heads CD, Emissions problem, Driver seat breaking on Track, Console Breaking, alignment going out every 300 miles I will say this car is a piece of shit & the next thing that breaks I'm duffing it over the Tappan Zee.

wait, i don't get it. i thought we have a 4 year unlimited mileage warranty on the batteries? i've had my battery replaced twice under warranty and the second one was replaced very close to the 4 year mark.

I've had mine on a trickle charger almost it's whole life. Not sure if it's the battery or the car.

It may be the HFL draining your battery.

The battery in my '08 last almost 2 years and died suddenly. No warnign, no sluggish starts ahead of time.. just click.click.click... I replaced it with an Autozone battery.

The battery issue is widely known. I was surprised mine last 2 years.

The OEM batteries in these cars are junk period. I worked at an acura dealer in the service department between 2006 and 2008 and it seemed like all I ever did was replace batteries in TL's. I'd recommend an Optima Battery.

Up north where they put salt on the road, if you clean off the top of the battery it will last longer.

Nope, didn't leave any lights on the car. I also clean the battery terminals & put battery terminal protector on the terminals every season. My friend works at Acura & he even said they sell endless amounts of them. It's nice to know that in a year or two the battery will yet again die & leave me stranded.

how long are batteries usually warrantied? most of them are only 2 years...expect to replace every 2 years or so. more often if in a colder climate.

if you do alot of short distance driving with the headlights, radio, etc on the battery life is shortened. The acura dealer replaced the battery on my 06 tsx free under the warranty. I did not have any problems with it but they told me it tested low. I did not complain. I thought replacement batteries had some kind of warranty.

I've been through 2 OEM batteries in my TL-S in about 2.5 years too, they are definitely junk. They give you a hard time about replacing them too, at the local dealers you can't just bring the battery in you have to tow the car in so they can check everything to make sure it's not something draining the battery. I got tired of the hassle and replaced it with a cheap-o battery from AAP. I have had no problems since.

Just replaced the battery in my 07 TL-S. I plurged on the Interstate Mega-tron 800CCA with 85 month warranty and so far have been happy. I had a Die Hard gold in my Maxima that lasted over nine years and was still going strong when I sold it last month. Factory batteries seem to be about as disposable as the Rayovacs I put in flashlights.

It's true, Acura batteries seem to suck pretty bad. I don't know who they use as their manufacturer but they need to consider switching vendors, assuming Honda/Acura doesn't manufacture their own batteries. I haven't switched mine out, but it's getting there fast. I've had to charge mine quite a few times and get two jumps in the last 3 months I've owned the car. This is without hardly ever using the seat heaters and never leaving anything on (although I think everything turns itself off anyway, like the lights).

Does anyone know if it's simply the Acura battery that sucks or if the TL sucks on the battery too much when the ignition is off? Is there something that draws a lot of current?

As for everyone else saying they've had trouble with other things, I think that's probably isolated. The TL is generally a good reliable vehicle. I've had 0 problems in 3 months. Granted, that's not long, but still, nothing to this point. That's with exception to the occasional creeks and rattles but hey, it's a Honda. I knew it when I bought it. I've owned a 93 Accord, 99 Accord and an 02 Odeyssey. Creeks and rattles galore. I didn't expect anything less from the TL .

I've owned a POS Nissan Altima and currently an 04 Sienna with 200K on it and they were/are both quiet as a dream inside (aside from road noise). I don't know why Honda can't get the creeks and rattles thing right. They build good quality vehicles but can't seem to get the interior panels to stay quiet.

I hate to say it, but their batteries are made by interstate. Years ago interstate batteries were the best, now they are crap. The dealer tested the old battery today & it was low, probably would have died again very soon. So, new battery installed & I'm guessing it will go again in 2 years. BTW I remember batteries lasting 4 or 5 years.

Not in 100+ degree heat in the Phx area. I've put three in my car in less than five years.

That's bad news. I always buy Interstate. I guess I need to do some research before I replace mine now.

I believe the last big battery discussion around here advocated Braille batteries due to their light weight, although I got a yellow top 4 years ago and its still going strong. Cant go wrong with any deep cycle battery.

HFL's really only a problem if it is defective. Mine went on the glitch and it didn't shut itself off (which a correctly functioning HFL is designed to do). It drained my battery while I was traveling for a family matter.

leedogg - Mind if I ask which model you went with? I'm looking for a battery right now but am a bit concerned with the longevity of Braille and Odyssey.

Pretty sure it was the yellowtop D35. If you want the redtop, just go with the 35. yellow top is if you have (or plan to have) lots accessories such as amps and audio equipment. Dont get the R models or the terminals will be reversed.

I had a 94 Accord and got 8+ years out of the original battery.
I had an 04 TL and had the original battery when I traded it at 70 months.
I have an 08 TLS and still have the original battery at 38 months.
My wife had an 07 MDX and still has the original battery at 50 months.

Not sure if it's luck or something else, but I have nothing to complain about when it comes to Honda/Acura batteries
