Aspec Kit or Aspec Wheels?

I have an '04 SSM. I am currently looking to purchase the aspec lip kit (front/rear lips and side skirts) and some aspec wheels - '04 silvers. I know the kit will be $800 and the wheels (no tires) are going for $850 + shipping. I want both BUT might not be able to afford both at this moment. Of course I want both cus I know they will look goddam sweet on the car. IF you had to choose one or the other what would you get?

Btw I was always more interested in the gunmetal aspecs but the silvers are growing on me (especially since the gunmetals are much rarer and harder to find), but I also like the type s wheels but would rather spend the $ on 18s and haven't even seen a pic of a non-type s with type s wheels; plus, would people thing you are a "wannabe" when they see you don't have a type s but have type s wheels? lol

Help a confused person out?

I say go with the gunmetal rims if you can find a good price on them. The gunmetals are hard to find, and the a-spec kit can be ordered anytime.

Tough call imj...I hate to go against a Moderator, but I'm gonna suggest to get the Aspec kit. The wheels on your TL are nice to begin with, but the kit really sets a TL apart and makes it look sportier.

the only people who would be able to tell you are rockin type s wheels on a non-type s are pretty much members here. i added the aspec lip and most people didnt even notice.. for some reason when i said i got a lip kit they wanted to see something drastic like when civics usually add body kits and a lot of people add the rears and side markers from type s, so i say if you like the type s wheels do it! dont worry about being a wanna be or whatever.

back to topic.. i say get the kit first. looks like a group buy is/may be going down, so hop on that if you can. and just keep searching for those wheels in gunmetal

Hey, theres no issue here about going against a moderator on opinions, just as long as you don't bash em or curse at em, its all good.

I chose to go body kit first, since there are many wheel choices available, anytime. It is a pretty good deal for erick3's A-spec wheels though

I'm a wannabe. I got S wheels on my 05.

Personally, I would go with the kit.

+1 for the kit first even though I bought wheels first because my tires were due to replacement.

if i redid my steps i would have gotten the kit FIRST then the rims. it just makes more sense but in my case i found the gunmetal rims dirt cheap (but they were all curbed) for 500 so i just bought it right away.

I had the same dilemma a few months ago.
I went with the aspec lip kit and suspension in one go. And 4 months later, I have new wheels on the way.

I have no regrets going with the kit/suspension first. Compare a stock TL with no lip kit and one with the lip kit...you'll see it's the way to go. IMO

Sort of redundant now but get the body kit first.

Like many before have said, kit+stockies > stock car+rims.

i also agree with the majority. the kit improves the stock more than the rims. and the rims really only look GREAT with a drop. so get the kit now, and save up for rims and suspension next.

got the kit. now... should i get the tls tails or save up for wheels (prolly aspecs)? only thing is i got brand new tires on my stocks right now so got plenty of time left on them and not gonna get new wheels until i need new tires. you think tls tails would look sexy on ssm with aspec kit?

btw i'd get just the tails, not the tails and sidemarkers (current group buy)

The TL-S tails are a huge upgrade from the 04-08 tails, IMO. The look is much more aggressive (if thats the proper term)... do it!

eh why not just do the gb we started? i think the side markers and the rear tails go SO WELL with the ssm...you'll end up paying more for it all in the end man. save yourself the torment of having to look at your car with the side markers! do the gb. lol

Partially remove trunk liner (peel back), stick arm in, push the red ones out, unclip the plug, plug into the TL-S ones, push the side marker back in the hole, put the trunk liner back... DONE!

Man, what would you do without me?! Haha

The hardest part of the A-Spec kit install is the thought of screwing up while your drilling holes in your ride. Rear being scariest. Take your time and get some extra double sided tape so you won't have all the gaps the lip kit leaves you with

Actually, drilling the holes was easy. The "challenging" part was the get the car lifted enough to get my drill underneath the front bumper! I broke my 1/8" bit on the last hole. Haha also, the placement of the those plates that go on the front bumper are a little ambiguous at first.

Side skirts are super easy.

I used extra double sided tape but still have a gap or two. Its annoying! Use plenty...

Gonna have quite a day with the install whenever the load of packages arrive!
