AON Auto Warranty - Ever heard of?

I'm about to purchase a new TL, but am looking at the extended warranty for a number of reasons. I'm also looking to purchase from Acura of Cleveland as they seem to have one of the best prices I've found on an '05, but my question is about their warranty. They do not sell the Honda of America warranty, but instead sell a warranty from Aon (part of the resource dealers group) and are claiming that it is more comprehensive with greater flexibility. Website is presumably http://www.aon.com/ , but am unable to find much.

Pro's? Con's? Wasting my money? Any insight would be appreciated.

It's very odd that an Acura dealer wouldn't sell the Acura warrenty. I've never heard of that company. You may want to check with your insurance company. Many auto insurers offer extended warrenties. Allstate offers something called Parts and Service plus. I've used it in the past. It had a $50 deductable per incident and only cost $650 (prices may have changed since then). In addtion you wouldn't have to lay out the money for the extended warrenty until a few thousand miles prior to the Acura 48 month/50k miles warrenty expires.

Do you have navi? If so, make sure it's covered in the policy you purchase. Personally, I would shop the internet for an Acura Care warranty.

Never heard of AON, but read numerous times that the best and the easiest to deal with is manufacturer’s warranty. Get Acura warranty to avoid finger pointing further down the road. OEM warranties are more expensive for a reason.

Great advice! Thank you.

Kona, yes, it does have Navi. From what I've seen it is covered in the policy, but I'm getting everything in writing before I take either policy. Supposedly (according to the dealer) this is a slightly more flexible policy allowing me to go to any Acura dealer or ASE certified mechanic.

Prolanman, great idea! I called my insurance agent today and unfortunately they don't offer an extended warranty. Interestingly enough, the agent on the phone had Aon as his extended warranty provider, though he couldn't tell me much more about them.

Mlionel, I've read through many of the other warranty threads and you brought up my number 1 concern about the Aon warranty.

All, Thanks for the help, I'll keep researching and let you know how it turns out. Dealer is supposed to be sending more information that I can look up. I'll pass it along for curiosity if for nothing else.

"Supposedly (according to the dealer) this is a slightly more flexible policy allowing me to go to any Acura dealer or ASE certified mechanic."

I heard about two complications in regards of “ABC” warranty vs. OEM warranty.
1. Dealers/mechanics don’t want to bill ABC warranty provider direct. They want you to cover repair, and then you bill you warranty provider.
2. Your warranty provider does not agree with the dealer on the warranty service done, and doesn’t want to cover part of this service, suspecting overcharging (sometimes rightfully so).

AON is one of the largest and most respected insurance companies in the world. The world would have to come to an end for them to go out of business. However, you're always better off with the manufacturers extended warranty if for nothing else than the reduction is hassle when a claim has to be paid. With a third party, you run the risk of laying out the money yourself and then waiting to be reimbursed.

Okay, so if I re-read the threads and interpreted your advice correctly, my best choice would be to purchase the car as is and then purchase an Acura car warranty before the car reaches 12,000 miles from a dealer who carries Acura Care. I would probably purchase soon after purchase anyway. I've looked at both links below and mission viejo seems to be more informative.

Am I on the right track?

i would stay away from aftermarket warranties. they are out there to make money not really cover cars. i can remember countless times that a customer would come in an say they had a problem with there car and they had an aftermarket warranty. when we figured out what was wrong and called the warranty company the usually did not cover it even though it says they cover the particular part on the contract. i even remember calling one warranty company and find out they went out of business so in that situation the customer shelled out money for a warranty that did not exist a year later.
