For anyone who had to order their TL

I wanted to know a simple question. Is the negotiation of price set before you place your down payment and order? I already am pretty sure the dealer will not have exactly what I want, and I am OK with that. I just want to know when I need to start trying to seriously start getting quotes for price?

Thanks!

The simple answer is ... yes.

Some dealers may order your desired selection before you have negotiated, but then you'll lose almost all of your bargaining mojo. Once "your" car hits the lot, and you see it there eagerly waiting there for you ... whispering your name ... they know they already have you hooked, and you'll probably drive it away within 24 hours regardless of the price.

So needless to say, I must negotiate price before I order!

Nuff said! Bad news is that there is not too many Acura dealers around here, but I am willing to drive a few hours to save a thousand dollars.

IMO, the answer should be YES.

However, you may not be able to get that car if it's already someone else's car.

BTW, if that car comes in and stays in the lot for many days, you may negotiate some good price in the end of month as long as it's not the popular color/combo. IMO.

I would ask for a quote via e-mail just to have something in writing.

Yes.

I just ordered mine on 3/1, and had already negotiated purchase price, extra accessories, and deposit in writing (via e-mail) prior to walking into the dealership to write up the order.

Now, I'm left to salivate while I wait for build/delivery. D'oh!

I say Yes and no. I negotiated a price in January when I ordered it, but about 2 weeks ago, I contacted another dealer and he was going to give me a better deal, so I called mine and told them if they could match it or I couldn't take the car. He matched it. I know it is kind of rude of me, but hey I have to save money somehow. Good luck.
