i just noticed today that the passenger airbag "off" light keeps coming on and off sporatically. on the way home from work i had a jacket, courier bag, and a bottle of grey goose vodka sitting on the passenger seat. does the "off" light come on if it does not detect any weight. i know in my parents car if nobody is sitting in the passenger seat the "passenger airbag off" light comes on. does our TL have this option also and it was just confused bc i had some weight on the seat. Or, is there a problem that i should have the dealer look at??? Everything else seems to be ok .. .. my commute to work is really short so i couldnt do a test to see if taking the items away would do anything. . thanks for your help

the passenger seat has an occupant detection unit in the seat back it detects when someone or something is in the seat so for example if a small child is in the seat it detects the light weight of the occupant and will turn OFF the side airbag to prevent injury to lightweight or small children

your system is working correctly it is sensing the weight of you vodka and other stuff and its turning it off

the weight is not very much and your confusing the system thats why it on and off

or its drunk....

 

In both my '01 CL and now the TL, I've seen the light come on when there is something sitting on the seat. It also occaisionally happens when my 13 year-old is riding up front and moves around in the seat.

Not sure what to say other than it happens to me too, so I guess it's normal.

 

thanx so much ... i was going to break out the manual and find out.. if its in their. the entire way home im pushing on the seat seeing if the light would go out. it was kinda driving me nuts

 

Hi...If you have a 3G..It comes on automatically to protect what it thinks to be a small child in the seat. It is a safety feature...Read up in your owners manual.
