Cool Anyone with Aspec and are annoyed by the front gap? My Solution w/pic

OK...so from day one, this has annoyed me...I have tried and retried putting on double sided tape and sure, it works...for about 10 minutes but no matter how much I put, or how thick/thin I made it or where on the lip I put it or if I put alcohol to wipe all down etc....it would never hold at the front part which would drive me nuts.

Well, I recently bought, installed some clears and then changed my mind and reinstalled my stockies. Of course that means that you have to pull off the tape to get the bumper off. Today, I finally had a stroke of genius. In the pic, at the innermost portion of where the lip meets bumper (where my finger is pointing) I drilled a tiny pilot hole with the fog light pushed back with a flathead (held in place with my head) and the lip pushed flush with the bumper. Then installed a tiny screw I had in my box of screws. Screwed it in, put some NBP touch up paint on it then pulled my accord fogs back over it and covered the screw head completely (that part was just pure luck, you couldn't see the screw before once it was painted).

So now, a little 2" piece of double sided tape at the back portion where it curves back out but isn't under much tension and "voila"...it finally sits perfectly.

Easy fix, just unconventional so I didn't think of it until now.

Thought I'd share in case anyone else was annoyed by this.

J.

Great job, man!

Isn't there a similar solution to the gap issues in the Garage?

My back I was able to rectify with 2 strips of double sided tape on a warm day and I made sure to really really clean off both surfaces before applying.

I hadn't seen the solution in the garage...not sure if it's there.
The fronts were never installed correctly to begin with and I think with the addition of the retro'd foglights the forward part of it would ALWAYS be sticking out...sometimes as much as a 3/8". So this solved that for me.

Did it today ... used tiny SS screws .. tucked them up under the lower grill center horizontal bar .. can't even see them unless you lay down and look up.

Sweet deal man...glad it's working out. I have to say that once I thought to do this...I thought to myself...wtf did I NOT think of this before wasting hours and hours redoing the double sided tape every few weeks.

What's the latest tips & tricks for an Aspec body kit installation?

Any chance you still have the pics? I'm getting ready to install an Aspec kit on my 06, and I want to make sure I do it using all the knowledge gained from everyone's experience in order to avoid common issues (such as gaps or anything I'm not supposed to do or that I should do differently that's in the Acura install PDF) and so that it looks its best.

And what kind of double-sided tape is recommended? A search indicated that 3M Acrylic Plus Attachment Tape is the tape to use, but there are many versions of that tape. Any recommendations on which tape, where and how much to use? Should I remove the stock tape and use my own?

Amazon.com: 3m acrylic plus

I ended up using an OEM product to fix my gaps... I knew it was available through honda, but had a hell of a time finding it. I believe I ended up finding it on the Odyssey parts page.

Here's a crude picture of what I'm talking about.

You can see between the lip and bumper, there is a thin black line. It's essentially just a thin rubber gasket that helps fill the lip smoothly to the bumper. This is an oem product you can buy from the dealership. Looks oem and ended up working well for me.

That probably would have worked splendidly...
What I did was put a screw on the inner portion closest to center hidden by the lower grills. This pulled the aspec taut enough that there wasn't a gap on the sides any more. I haven't seen those pictures in a long time. Sorry, man.

Acura could have done better with this.

I had the problem before I had the front end repainted. The problem, at least for me, was not using 3m cleaning wipes or isopropyl alcohol on the adhesive strips. Once I did that, everything worked like it should.

Let’s see

I washed with dish soap to remove any sealant and used rubbing alcohol. Might try redo in spring time.I did have it in a heated garage too.

Thought of just using some factory stuff from Honda for the front Aspec lip.

That's probably a better way to do it...when I first made the thread I don't think I was aware of that option
