Anti 2004 TL
#41
Man, you know what. I purchased my 03 TL-S in Sept. 02, and I even remember back then worrying about the upcoming, remodeled TL!! Dealer told me it would go on sale in April of 03 Well, almost a year has passed and no new car. So, I'm sure glad I got mine when I did. Lots of fun time behind the wheel.
Bottom line, there are pleeeenty of other things to worry about, and trying to keep up with everyone else with the latest and greatest anything is an impossible game (unless you're filthy rich).
I went for the 03 Type S because I just fell in love with it: The understated elegance, with just enough sport, and that agressive front end. And, the engine! The car is well put together, has a great interior, and when I do decide to get a new car I can rely on the great Acura resale.
Enjoy your "wheels" and stop frettin'.

I had this jealous syndrome when I had my 99 M3 and then the E46 M3 came out about a year later, basically a totally different car, almost 50% more power, looks to die for, dual exhaust, SMG II, gadgets and gizmos, etc. Yeah there will be better cars, nothing you can really do about it, just be happy with what you got, thats all you can really do...
manual tranny is definitely :smokin:

I think the Type S will have a classic/cult following no matter how "awesome" the new TL turns out to be (I personally think the new TL isn't that much better..it'll be faster, but looks-wise I still like the current platform). I actually tried to envision in my own head what the new TL would look like....somewhat like the new Accord with some body panel changes....frankly, I think the new 4 door Accord isn't too pretty...not fugly, but it's taking some getting used to. The TYpe S is special....like an M3 and M5 is special....I don't mean it's as fast or exclusive, but it shares the common bonds of a real cult-like following...the type s is what the guys who have a bit more cash and love speed get, just like the M3 and M5. That's why I'll be happy with my Type s for some years. The redesign is subtle, and isn't groundbreaking in a way that would have made the current one look antiquated. I agree with the accessment that the current Tl and Type s (especially) have an understated look about them that actually makes them more appealling. To me, when the type S debuted in the last quarter of 2001, I fell in love with it. I liked the CL-S before it, but when the 4 doors came out, I was sold. My TYpe S has this subtle sexiness about it....I think it's a damn sexy car with it's clean lines, simple yet elegant rims and that snarling beast of an engine. I appreciate it more because it more of a stealthy car, and not so outspokenly in-your-face macho sexuality like other in-your-face performace cars. The grace and subtle fashion in which the TL-S achieves its sexiness make it a great car. Sorry for the long post...I just love me car...as we all should.:p

The E55s are getting a design change in about a year or two...AMG is moving away from the kompressor line of their engines and using more normally aspriated 5.5L V8's with about 362 hp or so for their C55/SLK55 and CLK55 (which already has this engine). The upper echelon of the AMG line gets the 6.5L V8 Twin Turbo (pushing out around 700hp - 800+ lbs ft of tq) aptly named E65/S65/SL65/CL65. All the 6.5L cars will also get the 7 speed transmission. There was an article about it, if you want to read it I can dig it up and post it. The M5/M6, however, will get the V10 550hp and push them both to 0-60 around 3.9sec. So clearly the bar has been raised by both sides...(not to mention the new 6 series is the best looking design that has come out of Bangle's reign)...
PS- I don't think the E55 can acheive 0-60 in 4.3 sec, there simply isn't enough traction with the auto tranny to muster than kind of speed...the fastest I've seen it go on the sprint is 4.6sec (quoted by MB)...it is one helluva fast saloon...

Noticed that once I view this topic in the forums, www.bimmerforums.com tries to send me a cookie. Kind of funny when you think of the discussion here.

2003 vs 2004
Well, I voted with my wallet. My TL-S A-Spec has been in my driveway for less than a week and I still have a goofy grin paste to my face. And I keep looking for the long way home. I totally agree with the post that the conservative, yet aggressive stance of the car is a perfect match for my individual personality. I think it is classic sport sedan styling. And by def'n, classics tend to hold their appeal ... remember the Vigor and Legend? Still as gorgeous as the day they came out. And yes, I did beat the dealer down quite a bit on the price, knowing he had to move the last of the 2003s (the TSX already cut into the action for the TL. But for me the high beltline of the car doesn't quite work.) I have four happy years of leasing my '03 TLS ahead.

jeez the 04 TL reminds me of the 00-01 TL vs the 02-03 TL. Doesnt the 04 fogs look like the TSX fogs? Like if u look at em closely you will see that the glass housing doesnt really go to the edges of the hole in the bumper. Which reminds me of the 00-01 TL fogs bc the glass doesnt fit perfectly into the holes. The 02-03 TL on the other hand has fogs that fit perfect into the holes. It's these small cosmetic touches that seem to drive me crazy. I bet the 05 or 06 TL will be perfect. It will not look "unfinished" or "tester" model. And relax guys the 04 doesnt look classy like the 00-03 it's more of a extended TSX style.

I love my 03 TLs. From what I have seen of the new 04 TL, I'm not really feelin it. I want to see it in person when it comes out before I give my final 2 cents.
I can't wait to add the 2005 Lexus GS430 to my collection when it comes out! That car is gonna be off the chain.

I went and not one problem all they talk about is how great and problem free their cars are. The topics all sound the same "My car is great" or "Great is a word to describe my car". They actually had a topic about the topic of great cars e.g. the mitsubishi evolution or the WRX STi. They said the only problem with their cars is they saved money thinking that there would be problems but there werent any and now they have some money to spend. It must be great to own a WRX STi or a Lancer Evolution cause they are problem free and thanks to 2007 TL-X I now feel like I have a ton of problems compared to their problem free problem.

I just got my '03 Type S and I have to say that I love it, as for the '04, yes it will hurt the value of our cars if it is as good as ours and if it sells as good as ours, don't forget that the current TL is the bread and butter of Acura. It will be probably faster but even with 20hp more if you gain some weight and forgot to go to the gym well you do the math, a lot of cars out there have more power but is power to weight ratio and transmition gears ratio that will determine who's more than likely going to be faster, plus at this level you have to consider luxury and confort this cars should stay the way they are Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde (spell check please).
