What would you have done?

Well, I don't know if you had the world's worst lawyer or not, but you deserved a major settlement for what you went through. I'm truly sorry for your misfortune, and I wish you a full recovery. Live and learn.

ARE YOU KIDDING? THERE IS NO TRANNY ISSUE ON THE '04. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON YET, AND ARE JUMPING THE GUN IN A BIG WAY. STOP BEING CONTROVERSIAL.

acuraddict,

r u ok???

First of all, I don't think majority of owners on this forum is out to get Acura. These types of forums are here to vent concerns over various issues. Are there going to be definitive proof either way this early...probably not, but I also DON'T think it's appropriate to automatically assume there isn't a problem with the current 04 TL transmission.

Let's look at what we have so far after only about 2 months into the 04 release (also including TSX issues).

1. Couple of known 04 Tl 6spd tranny replacements.
2. Numerous 6spd tranny replacements for TSX.
3. My auto 5spd replacement tranny.
4. Numerous complaints about engine vibrations (cause of my tranny replacement)

This early on, if there were just 1 or 2 of the above issues, it would make me a bit concerned, but adding all the above, how can u make a statement that people are "JUMPING THE GUN"? Do you blame me for having concerns???

Also, is there definitive literature or statement from Acura about the 04 TL auto tranny spec??? I've heard from dealers that is is a modified MDX tranny, others say it is a modified 03 CL tranny, some say it is a modified NSX tranny (which I doubt highly), while others say this an entirely new tranny built from the ground floor?

So unless YOU have definitive proof either way...don't dictate to other people how they should or should not react! PLEASE.

Who says its a modified NSX tranny?

I highly doubt that. The NSX automatic could not handle the power of the original 270 hp NSX 3.0 liter engine, so they detuned that engine to 254 hp for auto tranny cars only. Even after Acura moved to a 3.2 liter, 290 hp engine for the 97+ NSX, the automatic cars stayed with the detuned 3.0.

Of course, the real question is why is an automatic even an option on an NSX . . .

It was my understanding that the 6MT was a new unit, not previously used in other cars, but ICBW. I have no idea the genesis of the automatic.

O.K., fair enough. I may be reacting too strongly. Its probably because I have read so many petty complaints on here and seen so many people jump to conclusions that these cars are bad, and that Acura knows it, etc. etc., and it gets to be a little much.

I'm not saying there aren't legitimate issues, but these assumptions such as "Acura deceived us..." and "yet another generation of bad trannys" are ridiculous, and I felt compelled to respond.

If I am misinformed, I apologize, but I was totally unaware of any 5speed '04 tranny probs, and if you're saying that your car (not sure what you have) is an '04 TL with a replaced tranny, I don't remember reading about it on the site.

One more thing: Many people on this site are concluding that the vibration problem is a tranny problem. Now I'm no mechanic, but the fact that so many people (myself included) have found that when putting the car in neutral, at freeway speeds to see if the vibration goes away, have found that no change in vibration occurred, it seems to remove the tranny as the source of the vibes.

Thats it for me, I'm sorry for coming off so strongly before. It happens.

Precisely ...I am a horrible speller,so get over it,but ,acura addict ,Fsconsult post ,which was just before mine is exacrly WHY I said that there had better not be a tranny issue ..I WAS NOT jumping the gun,but honestly if you had been in my accident or the lockup that occured 6 times on my way to work a month before the accident ever occured ..you'd see WHY my concerns' are great with the tranny issue. Do you know what it feels like driving wondering any minute if your car is going to skid tires going 70 mph on the highway trying to stop on you ? OR WORSE ...THAT happening and someone hitting from the rear so hard you thought SADAM had bombed the world ..I do and it's a major fear factor ,with NO REWARD.

All who accuse me of being dramatic ,have not endured this ,so please hold your comment's until it happens to you and you have the resultant injurie's.

Goodnight

Well, my '02 TL -S did slam into a lower gear, and I then carefully and slowly drove to my Acura dealer the following day. My tranny was replaced in one week. Are you saying you actually drove your car FOR A MONTH, allowing this to happen SIX TIMES? Umm...what the hell were you thinking?

Oh please could I hear the story one more time before bed!! Please, please....

Oh, wait, I don't want to hear the "That Girl" story on another thread, website, forum, etc.

Get a lawyer and get over it.

There are support groups for people with "issues", but this site is not one.

Maybe you should paste into Word first to run spell/grammar check on your posts.

It is amazing to me how people will beat up someone to defend an auto brand. I think 'That Girl' has been unfairly targeted by posters here. It reminds me of late '02 when the tranny failures started being reported here. People were accused of everything from not knowing how to drive, to being dealers of other brands out here dissin' Acura to get more business.

Acura needs no defense. Honda is a huge corporation with a lot of money who can do basically whatever it wants. How can an auto company get away with a vehicle who has a tranny that can fail on the open road, with reported injuries from drivers, and not be be required to do a recall by the NHTSA? Certainly other auto manufacturers get taken to task for much smaller issues and everyone raises an eyebrow when they are forced to do a recall.

I think it is important for people to report problems here. I think people who blast others having these problems are taking it personally and feel they need to defend Honda. Be that as it may, it is wasted breath. I do recall how many people ate crow when their trannies went. I do not wish that on anyone...most specifically, I hope that no one has to be severly injured or killed for something to happen to fix any potential issues. Unfortunately, this is often the case today.
