Hi AcuraZine members,
I helped purchasing my dad a 2004 Acura TL past month, it came from the original owner, no accidents, it had 105k miles on it, but the car was the past year standing in a garage and only
driven a few hundreds of miles in the year.

Its a NBP on the outside and parchment leather from the inside. It came with Navi, rear wing or anything what you could get for that year, even some dealer installed extras.

It did have some small cosmetic issues that's reflected the low asking price. The owner only drives Acura and so does his children.
I found it over craiglist and was in direct contact with the seller.

The bad:
passenger side leather seat has a small cut,
roof dent from limb (no paint damage),
right rear fender got some scratches (small rust spot from chipped paint),

The very bad:
As of last night I was informed that my stepmom's drove the car without engine oil. facepalm
The engine is dead, rod knocking etc., I also posted this in the "Problem & Fixes Section" under "dead engine, need engine replacement advice"

We are definitely replacing the engine, just don't know the progress from now on.

But we were very happy with the car and we definitely keep you updated on here.

To me: I am from the Subaru Scene, I am driving a Saab 9-2x (what is theoretically and mechanically a Subaru Impreza Wagon), I am very familiar with that car.
I personally always like the 3rd generation of TL's the most,
I wish to afford me one day one, especially a '08 TL-S.

I am originally from Germany, I grew up there for 19years and you only few TL's across Germany but they are very popular except they call them Honda's there.

That's to me, let me know if you got any questions.

welcome!
sux to see the car already down..

if you can find a used engine from the same year, I'd do that.
also, at 105k miles is the big water pump and timing belt service.
interested to see if it was indeed no oil or if the timing belt snapped.

used engines are no where near 9k.
like your research, ive seen them go for $500-1200.
plus labor if you're not doing it yourself.

Thanks for your response, good to know regarding engine replacement prices. I will inform my dad about this forum etc., my dad repair shop will replace the engine.

I did the same timebelt, waterpump, thermostat, bearings change on my Saab 9-2x but I bet on a Acura V6 engine it won't be that easy to be done.

I found this pic on my phone the day I picked her up for my stepmom.

Is the timing belt located in the front? I don't know anything mechanically about the car.

In my car I only needed to pull out the radiator to do the change.

I will use the "search button" from now on, so I won't make any question about this here.

this car is a fwd so the engine is mounted transverse. the timing cover is on the passenger side where your serpentine belt is.

there are some longitudinally mounted engines that are fwd but not the 3G TL

Why was there no oil in the car when your mom drove it
?!? What was someone in middle of an oil change and she just took it?

Hey,
We all can keep question this but it doesn't matter because it already happened and we will prevent the future from let this happen again. From now on we check every 1,000miles that there is oil in it. And I will show my stepmom how to check it and how to refill the synthetic oil.

Btw. I will keep the other Thread under "Problems & Fixes" - "Dead engine, need engine replacement advice" updated.

Thanks for all the welcomes, I will definitely stick around.
