Exclamation Another llumar tint thread...

I have read just about every tint thread I could find and still couldn't find what I was looking for. So here is the low down...

I have an 07' TL-S nighthawk black pearl and looking to get the windows tinted. I sought out a local shop that uses llumar tint and they told me they carry the ATR charcoal film and the % they offer are 30, 20 and 15. I looked on llumar's website and I see the ATR 30, 20 and 15 but the % VLT is different than what the ATR# states. I am pretty set on getting the ATR30 on all side windows (33% VLT) but i'm undecided what to get on the rear glass whether I should get the same ATR30 on the back or go one shade darker ATR20 with a %VLT of 26%. Is there anybody that has the same car with ATR30 all around or ATR30 on the sides and ATR20 on the rear glass? Please, nobody tell me I should get 5% or 15% on the sides because I don't want anything that dark, and want to keep it classy. This is why i'm contemplating whether or not to go darker on the rear glass. Please post up some pics or thoughts?

Also, is the ATR good stuff? The website just says it's high performance film.

Thanks!

I think the tint will look better on the car if it's the same percentage all around, instead of the two tone look. I've heard good things about LLumar tint.

Llumar ATR Series comes with a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty that covers both material and labor. This is what sold me when I was shopping for tint.

It will be just fine to put 20% on the rear windshield. You won't really notice the difference by looking. Just make sure you put the same tint on the front and rear passenger windows. Being so close/side by side, you will definitely notice the difference there.

Yes I agree all the side windows will be the ATR30. Just undecided on the rear glass...and would like to see pictures of some NBP's with ATR30 all around or ATR30 on the sides and ATR20 on the rear glass. Thanks for the replies fellas!

Llumar ATR is a metallic tint which could interfere with GPS and radio signals. I just had my ’08 NBP TL-S tinted last week with 30% Llumar Axcess (ATX) which is a ceramic tint and does not interfere with the GPS and radio signals. The Llumar ATX looks fantastic with the NBP. Make sure your tint person tints behind the gasket in the small rear window in the back doors. You can check the Llumar web site for tint shops in your area. There is more to tint than just the different shades. Here is a link to the Llumar product specs.

Yep, i've looked at their website and have looked at the product spec sheets. What did the ceramic tint cost you? Did you do 30% all around including the back window? Pic?

All windows including the rear window and sunroof were done in 30% Llumar ATX. Cost without the sunroof was $240, and another $20 for the sunroof.
Just like you I wanted to stay with the classy look, any darker would have been too dark for me. IMO it just looks better with all the windows with the same shade. I can take some picture for you this weekend.

I had my car tinted at http://www.qualitywindowtints.com/. I was extremely picky about having my car tinted. This guy has been tinting cars for 11 years and started his own business about a year ago. He tints out of his home garage and you can stay and watch him work. He does excellent work. My tint is perfect and I think he said he has enough ATX 30% in stock to do one or two more cars. Most tint shops don't carry the ATX as it is more expensive than Llumar ATC or ATR. I will try to put some pictures up this weekend.

Damn, aurora is a little far from where i'll be. I think i'm going to call the shop here in lafayette and see if they stock the ATX film or if they can order it for me. I would assume if they are a llumar dealer, they could order the film...

I just called there and they do not have the ATX film and he would have to order a roll of it which would make my tint job like $500 he said. He also said the ATR30 meters right at 30 in contrast to the website which says 33%...although ATR30 on top of the OEM window tint would put me around 30% right? I think i'll just go with the ATR30 all the way around all 5 windows. Opinions?

$500? LOL

and then he'll continue to sell it to new customers, making more profit from the roll. What a joke.

I should also add that I have no trouble with GPS after my tint was installed.

No problems with GPS or radio or phone or anything like that with ATR film?

Sweet thanks trew. Can you put up some pics of your ride? Side and back views? I am curious what the 20 looks like on the back.

I also agree go with same percentage all around the car. Just looks better. As DJ5 said make sure they do the rear small windows correctly and get the tint behind the rubber gasket thing. I went with 35% tint all around looks great.
As far as scratching goes its just the way the car is. Some say moleskin doesnt always help either and plus thats a pain it sounds like. You gotta take off all the door panels, usually gets glue on all the windows.
The guys that tinted my car said Mercedes are the worst for scratching tint.

I have pics all over this forum. Here's a thread with some pics.

White TL is mine. Black TL is Edluv143's. He has 5% all the way around with a 50% front windshield.

I dropped off my car last night to leave it for them to tint today since I work today and they opened at 8am and now it's 9:30am and just received a call that my car is done. 1 1/2 hrs seems really really fast to tint windows in my opinion...if he is an experienced window tinter is 1 1/2 hours about how long it takes someone that's really good or does this seem rushed? I haven't seen it yet and won't until I get off of work but I really hope he didn't rush and do a half ass job. Thoughts?

My rear window should have been done in 1 piece right? Also with it being llumar tint, am I suppose to get a warranty card or what kind of warranty paperwork should I be sure to get so I can have manufacturer warranty??

Is your rear glass all 1 piece? What did they tell you or give you regarding warranty info?

As i've been reading I need to call this place and ask the tint guy to redo the quarter windows I hate to call and complain, seems like i'm talking shit about his work. When I mentioned the issue to the lady at the front, she right away got really defensive saying that's how those windows are and the tinter is the best in the area. Ugh..

That's wrong you have every right to complain. Not that you need to explain yourself but show them pics of tinted TL's from the board.

With the help of you guys, I can show the guy pictures of these windows tinted the correct way. Can anybody on here post a closeup of their rear 1/4 windows so I can pull this thread up in the shop to show him? I really really appreciate the help, thanks guys.

I don't think it would be any harder tinting all the way behind the 1/4 windows than it would be tinting all the way behind any of the other windows...right? Same or similar rubber gaskets?

Yep, you need to go back. The tint should go under the gasket in those windows. I would not be happy if my tint looked like that. The tint for the rear window should all be one piece.

Yup that quarter panel=Fail=an incompetent installer. And good choice with llumar I have the same on mine, however I would've suggested you go with 3M color stable as its much better quality. I had a couple of threads on this, if you search. Either way .. llumar is good too.

I'd go back but he's going to say you there is no way it can be done blah blah.. but don't listen to that shit.

Can you put up a pic of your 1/4 windows guys^^? I'll be calling in a couple hours to speak with the installer. I'll let you know how it turns out.
