Amsoil 0w30 - Is it ok for the TL?

Amsoil 0w30 - Is it ok for the TL?

I am about to do an oil change and I was checking out the Fully Synthetic Amsoil 0w30. Is this stuff worth the price of admission, and is it safe to put in my TL? It really looks good and I want to know before I buy it. Has anyone used it here or know of someone who used it here?

Also, if anyone knows of someone that can get me a good rate for it, I will buy from their distributor. But I really want to know if this stuff is cool for our car long term.

Why not use the recommended 5W-20? Amsoil makes that weight also.
I think it's a great oil. I've read many analysis studies, and it looks like the best.

I would go with royal purple 5w30
but since its Al replying you know I would try and get you a good price
only thing I culd find is that it is cheaper to buy 1 gallon, rather than buying by the quart

I read on a thread in AZ where this guy who claims to know a lot about oil said that the Amsoil 0w30 is the way to go! Spiritman too! Anybody else know of the product? I am going syn, so no need to debate the pros/cons of non and syn oil.

Well, sort of. The "Signature" series replaces other 30w oils (0w-30, etc.) I don't see where it says anything about replacement of 20w oils, which is what Acura recommends. I am not much of a risk taker, so I would stick with what Acura recommends.
P.S. I just received my dealer pack in the mail this weekend, this is the oil for me.

I wouldn't be afraid of the 0-30. I run Royal Purple 5-20, change every 5000 miles. I buy it in the 5 gallon jug so it costs me almost the same as Mobil 1 (shipping is free).

I am currently running 5w20 amsoil and have nothing but good to say compared to the acura crap, next oil change I will be us ing 5w30, I am at 30% now so probably another couple months to go

ps. Royal purple they sell everywhere get it locally so you wont have to pay shipping unless this guy has a link to free shipping

How often do you change? Using their estimates, it's 25K or 1 year for normal! Would you go that long? Dayuuum!!

Do a search on Ebay it's $122.49 for five gallons of whatever grade you want with free shipping. I have purchased racing oil and street oil from him several times. Great service, great prices, no problems. I could get it locally at NAPA, but the price is insane. He's always selling with buy it now, so no need to worry about the deal going away.

ebay can't be touched right now... 4.5 quarts is all it takes for a tl oil change... so 5 gallons pretty much takes care of you for the lifetime of the car lol

Just use conventional oil folks, there's little benefit to using synthetic oil. It doesn't always last longer than conventional oil either, contrary to what Amsoil and RP want you to believe.

Your engine was tested and validated using 5w-20 conventional oil and will have a very, very long life (longer than you care to own it) as long as you follow the oil life monitor. It's unlikely that you'll be able to reap any benefits from synthetic oil, if there are any.

LOL...see Soda, that's why I didn't ask you man because I know you are an advocate of non-syn or conventional oil. But I want it regardless and there has to be some proof to all of this reasearch and marketing. It's too big to be a gimmick! Know what I mean?

Well, it's your money...

There is proof. Synthetic oil is necessary and useful certain applications, but very, very few applications truly require synthetic oil. Just look at the market share of synthetic oil vs conventional oil, for example. Only vehicles that are built for track conditions (i.e. Corvette), vehicles that are exposed to very, very high oil temperatures (305F+), or vehicles with very specific viscosity requirements need the synthetic oil.

Sure, it's possible that your TL needs synthetic oil if you operate it in an environment that requires it, such as constant track use. Otherwise, you are just wasting your money.

Amsoil 0-30 should be fine. The 0 30 is great for winter due to its ability to warm up quicker.

I my self stick to Royal Purple.

It's my money, I'll spend it how I want. Get off your Dino oil soapbox! I change my oil with Royal Purple every 5000 miles and drive 10,000 miles a year. The added cost is not going to put me or most on this forum in the local homeless shelter.

I am confused about prices... I am the biggest price cutter... and I havent found any synthetic oil that costs more than $1 per quart than the conventional oil... so that is what $5 per oil change....

I use the stock oil that Smithtown Acura gives me when I go in for oil changes

could be extra virgin olive oil for all I know, but my car works beautifully!

synth vs dino is like arguing premium vs regular gas. While you can use dino, just as you can use regular gas, going cheap on these things is pointless.

The pennies you save are trivial compared to the additional performance, quality, and security derived from using the higher end products. If using synthetic, saves me in the long run from even 1 engine issue due to less wear and tear, then as far as I'm concerned, its worth it. I hear too many stories of how synthetics solve all sorts of issues (search for transmission fluids) to dismiss them as gimmicks. As far as I'm concerned, although Formula One makes FULL use of synthetics due to high temperatures and extreme conditions, this doesnt necessarily mean that regular high performance vehicles wont make use of synth's - they will benefit as well, just to a lesser degree, for better performance and long range durability.

Again, it depends on the application. Premium gas is recommended in the TL, but not in my 4-cyl GM. Are you telling me that I should put premium gas into my GM even though it isn't needed?

Again, I'll repeat: synthetic oils do NOT provide any additional wear protection under normal driving conditions. OEMs tested and validated this engine design on 5w-20 conventional oil. If synthetic oil was necessary to maintain durability and reliability in this design, they would have used it, as they did in the RDX.

Aside from peace-of-mind and that remote possibility that you may someday take the car to the track and forget to install synthetic oil, synthetic oil under normal use is just a waste of money.

The transmission fluid is a whole different story. The fluids are very application specific due to different OEMs using different materials. It's best to only use a fluid that has is OE approved and has been validated in that transmission. But Honda's Z1 fluid is an odd animal, but I'll save that for another discussion.

Fair enough, though if you want to use it, I know that Amsoil's SSO 0w-30 is a great product, better than RP IMO.

I pay attention to them but I don't use them. Amsoil is a better product, but is totally unnecessary.

To prove it, look at the spec sheets for Amsoil, RP, etc. Note that the new Amsoil product is a better product, at least on paper. But it has only been out for a few months so it's hard to say how well it'll turn out in the real world.
