They have to start somewhere....

But agreed, if this is going to become a standard practice, then the moderators should put together some sort of "code of conduct" rules for these fourms....and begin enforcing them consistently.

But I also agree that things could be toned down a little here at times. There are a small number of folks here who just seeming come looking to pick fights and arguments. But there are others who just need to think twice sometimes before posting something. I'm sure almost all of us have been guilty at one time or another of saying something the either with they hadn't after the fact, or just plain shouldn't have in the first place (regardless of whether they realized it or not). I'm all for a healthy dose of good natured fun and ribbing here mixed in with all the great knowledge and discussions that take place, but a lot of times it goes too far.

Bottom line - if you want things "cleaner" (and in my opinion, more boring) you are certainly entitled. It's your forum, not mine. But this seemed very much an inconsistent, solitary strike against me rather than a consistent application of rules.

Exclamation Called his bluff..

If you've been on this forum and reading for more than a couple of days, you realize that the dealer ALWAYS tells you "I've found a couple of cars that meet your specs. So, sign here and give me a deposit."

Then, the buyers get jerked around for months with unforeseen delays.

A good salesman will try to get you out of the marketplace. This is a good way to do it. You commit to buy, give a deposit, and quit shopping. You get all cranked up over "your" new car and start buying Zaino and microfiber and cleaning the garage. Often, we have discovered, there really wasn't a specific car after all. They just wanted to nail you down to their dealership. It works.

To find a car, the dealer has to go on the computer and check the build and ship schedules. He can also check other dealer's inventories. Each car is listed BY THEIR VIN and build/ship date. If he found "a couple of cars," their VINS are right there under your nose, Mr. Dealer-man.

I suspect the reaction of the salesman was due to being caught in a lie. He didn't have specific VINs because he didn't have specific cars. You didn't follow the script and you threw him off balance. He is taking a chance that he will be able to locate something in the pipeline or in someone's inventory that he can move you into.

Also, when they have cars on order under their allotment, for inventory, they can place a change order up to a certain point to change colors on a partiular unit that is in the pipeline. 5AT, 6MT change is only slightly more difficult as they are built on a different line. For instance, they will schedule to build 500 6MTs and 2000 5ATs on a certain week. It saves them time and money to do them together rather than cafeteria style (Gimmie one of those and two of these....). Especially true because there are different suspension, and brake components depending on the transmission.

So, it's simple to call up/email the factory and say "Change order no. XXXX from AM/Ebony to NPB/Parchment." The same line still builds it. Theoretically, you could do that the day before it is scheduled to be built. However, build dates are given by week: "Between the 11th and the 15th" is an example. Shipping usually takes a week but they will tell you longer so you aren't disappointed if there is a delay. My car was made on April 12th (42,xxx), and arrived at the dealer on April 21st.

A new TL comes off the line every 3.5 minutes.

If the dealer has located the car, they should absolutely be able to tell you the last five digits of the vin#.... Motorcars did that for me.

As a general rule, using the "F" word and referring to incest with ones sister, and bestiality to boot is not acceptable. You can get your point across without going over the top, just use your common sense. Your opinion was not being "censored", just the verbiage you used to express it. It is not necessary to get extreme to avoid a "boring" forum.

As to the inconsistency, keep in mind that the mods do not read every thread and post, so some things slip by unless they are report and brought to our attention.

Bottom line- Thousands of people read the forum daily, so what might not be offensive to some, will be very offensive to others(especially the aforementioned). Continue to be a member in good standing by doing what you normally do. I have no reason to suspect you will post out of character again, and even when you disagree with another poster, just keep a rational perspective.
