im about three to four weeks out of getting an 03 tl most likely type s. im an old school first gen owner from about 5 years ago. i know there was a severe problem with all the trannys or something like that but besides that... is there any issues which i should know that should be known? thanks a bunch ppl.... also for the mods... is there anyway to change the sign on/screen name... kinda old. lol thanks

Their is a problem for the 04 transmissions, but supposedly its better, but not as strong as it should be. I don't remember ever hearing or seeing a lot of members having problems with the 04 tranny, but just something to think about (though I think 04 is a good car still and don't really think you will have tranny problems unless you don't proper maintain it and/or redline the car all the time). I have a 98' TL too, I never had a transmission problem with the car, and it feels like it has higher torque in the low range! But I would recommend a 05/06 TL since they have a better transmission, or get a 07-08 TL/Type-S which has the RL tranny in there.

 

with the 04 there are failures, but very few. Maybe 10% of all 04's built fail. Change the fluid at least every 60K and it'll run a long time.
