Air bag outline on dashboard

Has anyone else had the air bag outline appear on dashboard. It usually appears when the defroster is on, you can see the outline of the airbag (rectangle) on the dashboard. Took it to the dealer and they said the whole dashboard would have to replaced (under warranty) but it opens up the risk of rattles from the dash if a new one is put in.

I just started noticing this too. What are you using to clean the dash? I have been using Meguiar's Vinyl and Rubber cleaner/protector. I wonder if the 303 crowd is having this same issue?

Why would you see the outline when the defroster is on?

Maybe somehow the temperature change when running the front defrost does something to the dash area.....I'm presuming the duct work for the front defrost and front vents runs behind/thru the dash area.

???

By the way, I use 303 Aerospace Protectorant on my dashboard and I don't think I have any problems with the airbag deployment line showing more than it should.

Is this on an 04 or an 05? Also, which dealer did you take it to? Yes, pics would help. Something new to worry about. Ha ha

Sounds like a leak somewhere in the defroster ductwork.

i do not think it will require the replacement of the complete dash. they just have to change the cover just like they did when they replaced my torn steering wheel.

It's an 04. Dealer said they have seen it on others as well. I have been using Armor All on it, the wipes. It is more noticeable when there is condensation on the window from morning dew and when the defroster is on

I'd never let them replace the whole dash just because the outline of the airbag showed a little. The chance for major problems later are too great for a little problem like the airbag. I don't think the dealer is ever going to get the dash reinstalled as well as the factory...just too much stuff to screw up.

The way the light hits it...

I've noticed it - very slightly - on mine under certain light conditions.

It isn't enough to concern me. It beats the old way of having an obvious plug in the top of the dash where the bag is located.
There has to be reliefs molded into the cover to allow it seperate when the bag deploys and that will cause some unevenness of the surface that will show from certain angles and under certain light conditions.

At the risk of getting flamed, I'd have to say some folks are just too bloody picky. If you are looking for problems, I positively guarantee you will find them, one way or another.

Where is the break in the dash? I was hoping they could just replace that section for my browning dash as well, but it looks like one big unit.

I agree - that's why I am living with my discoloration - not worth risk IMO.

Does anyone know what they do when you have a wreck and your airbags deploy? I am guessing with my '02 TL that has the airbag as a separate thing on the dash they would just replace that, not the whole dash - assuming no other damage. But on our '04's now it seems they would have to replace the entire dash - is that cost effective - oh, well I guess it is good for Acura Parts Dept....hmmmm interesting....

sorry. i stand corrected. i was thinking of the RSX dash which has the airbag cover placed on top of the dash instead of the way the TL has it underneathe the dash.
my fault....
