Air assisted jacks
Anyone have experience with this sort of jack? I found this at Costco for $149, and am tempted in getting it. It has a lift-range of 5-17" which is better than my hydraulic floor jack (which barely fits under my other car).
I figure it will save a lot of time changing the oil and stuff on my TL, but never used one of these before. (Don't worry, I'll still use jack-stands)
I hate using the ramps, (and the ramps don't even clear my other car), and my floor jack is a pain to use, because the bar keeps hitting the front fascia so I have to take a billion tiny strokes, etc.
I thought this was interesting, because when I researched air assisted hydraulic floor jacks, the best price I could find was $300 for a chinese made one and $1000 for an american made one. I found cheap air assisted hydraulic bottle jacks, but those are too tall to clear my other cars.

I figured the 3 bag version is better, because my current floor jack has a 5-15" lift range, and when that is at max height, my TL barely clears the jack stands, so 12" is probably not high enough.
I assume 1.8 tons is decent, considering I'm not using the jack to lift the entire car, just half the car, right?

from past experience a 1 1/2 ton aluminum racing jack started sagging, when we used it on a mr2 (~2900 lbs) i think it needed to be relubed or some crap. we only used it to jack up the sides, but it still didnt work. a tl is ~3500+ pounds i think.
then again we didnt have stands so we used the jack to support the car (which is scary)
i agree it is a pain because the bar always gets hits something unless you have a huge ass garage. if you dont use it to support the car it should be fine.
lol i might just go to costco soon and check it out. too busy getting samples to notice new stuff.
