Aftermarket seats interest

Since we don't have a designated mounting/adapter rails for aftermarket seats, I contacted Wedge racing who's been doing sliders/rails for aftermarket seats for over 35 years I believe.

Anyway, I don't know the exact price since I'm not even sure if there is ANY interest besides the few insane people on here (accuratin and...well yah that's about it). I'm assuming each adapter is in the $100 range for sliding mounts, that bolt up to the factory holes.

http://www.wedgeengineering.net/SEAT...6/Default.aspx

Since I'll be getting bucket seats, I was just going to go with some custom fabbed ones, but I thought if I could make it easier on the next person I might as well put up a thread since Wedge racing is local and I can contribute my car for a few days to do the fitting.

Just post up if you are: No way in hell losing your power/heated seats, considering, or def. looking for a solution like this.

Thanks.

aaaah so now I know why you asked if I was going with aftermarket seats

shit, this is the sole reason why I havent gotten the seats... I don't want custom fabbed rails, went through that mounting rsx seats in a civic coupe.... never again

so definitely dude, find out what it costs, and see if you can be their retailer

although i think it would feel more comfortable....having mostly driving in bucket seats previously... i think it detracts from the car, and it'd be something i probably wouldnt do to the TL unless i was extremely serious about taking this car to the track.

so i guess i'd be one of those hell no not losing power/heated seats ppl

Sure, ship your seats over and I'll just replace the insides with peanuts.

No, the "initial" product is whats going to be killer. That's why I don't want to do it if no one else wants it. I'd be spending a few hundred for a one-of piece..

I know those leather seats are nearing their end of their life span about now for the 04 and 05 owners! Those silly side bolster cracks would look nice replaced with a pair of Sparcos!

Stop! Your persuasion must not carry on for I'm one of those few who have that damn cracks lol.
If this works for that one electric recaro bucket-seat[was it recaro that I saw?] and can somehow get heated seats maybe I will consider =D

Sorry, the thread title might be misleading. I meant this is for the BRACKETS only. So that way you CAN mount the aftermarket seats while retaining safety and also simply bolt them on without having to drill holes onto your floor.

My favorite blue SUEDE!!!!!!

Wow...those Audi seats are hot! I wonder how much they cost? I also wonder how much it would cost to get someone to replace my mounts if I did this. I am assuming Al knows how to do his own. But the rest of us that don't, have to pay someone. So how much do you think?

Funny how no one here is talking about the implications involved with seat heaters or the major safety issue of side air bags.

No, I'm not kidding !!

You honestly think there'd be no difference in the extent of your injuries in a side impact relying on just the pillar alone without the airbag? So if the pillar saves my life but I'm permanently disabled (or wind up in the hospital for 6 months instead of a couple of weeks) from injuries whose severities would have been lessened from having the airbags, then it's OK to not have them, right?

Those airbags are there for a reason. I'd also hate to think of what your insurance company would have to say if they found out you removed them.

Damn, he has a point!

But at the same time, if these guys want to do that to THEIR cars...then that shouldnt really bother you (you seem pretty bothered by this mod). I'm pretty sure they know what they are getting themselves into and isnt affraid of the consequences.......right?

I dont think I'll sign on to this one though. My heated seats and plush leather works great for me! This is a dope idea if someone really wants to mod their TL out for racing. I'd do it if I was into that kind of stuff.

The point I wanted to make in my 1st post here was that it seemed as if no one was taking into account the safety implications of going without the side airbags. What bothered me was the apathy shown by stillhere153's response by thinking the pillars was all he needed to save his life. I'm not bothered by what someone else does to their own car and if they want to put themselves in harms way, so be it, it's their car, their $$$, their life. But what about the safety of an innocent passenger in the event they get broadsided on the passenger side and that individual winds up spending the rest of their life in a wheel chair, an injury that the airbags could have prevented? What's he gonna say to that person then?

Modifying the suspension or air intake for racing is one thing, but removing a major safety device that can make a difference between life and death in the event of an accident is something else entirely. I don't want to see anyone wind up in a hospital, or for that matter, a funeral home.

^^^Well given their age what do you expect?. Everyone has their learning curve. But you are right, it is indeed a safety hazard. Plus the TL is a luxury car, aftermarket seats would look hella awkward. Unless you got the body kit, roll cage, racing stearing wheel, double braced seat belts, carbon fiber hood, super loud exhaust with the polished 5zigen rims...then maybe just maybe it would "look" ok. Thats why I said its a dope idea for racing, given you had all of the other mods to keep you alive in the event of a serious accident. Not such a good idea for your daily bread. With the way some people drive today....ANYTHING can happen.
