BMW 535
I love this car but ever once in a while, while cruising between 20-30 miles/hr in the city i feel a hesitation in the transmission, I wounder is this a common problem or a sign of impending Tranny failure??.

The tranny problem has been a hesitation to shift between 20 and 30 and an rpm surge before the shift (or it was for me). If you get that then take it immediately to the dealer.
As for the 5 series... If you stay in a new car market you do not have to worry much about reliability, just dump the car before the warranty expires. Same goes for the TL. I have not heard that the TL has done well from a reliability perspective either. We'll see as many 04s start to rack up the miles. The 2G has had its share of problems. One good thing is that the tranny issues have gone away for the most part in the 3G, but there have been smaller and very nagging and sometimes expensive problems such as brakes...
