Advice on selling my TL with a dead transmission
So, the transmission in my 2006 TL is done. The trans shop gave me an estimate of $3,500 (Parts and Labor) to replace it with a Jasper transmission. Unfortunately I can't do that right now. Here's my dilemma, I still owe on the car. Does anyone have an idea of what I might be able to get out of the car as is? Does anyone have any other suggestions on how I can get the best price for it as is? Talk about a messy situation!
It's a 2006 TL 155,000 miles, engine runs strong, tires are relatively new.
Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated!!

You can probably find a transmission for $1K, labor depends where.

I went through this a few months ago, only mine was paid off. Honestly with a bad trans and the mileage, you will only get $2000-$2500 for it if you are lucky. I would go to a different trans shop for another quote. I was quoted $2300 parts/labor/warranty out the door, only thing was my car need more parts than just the trans at almost 200k miles. I decided to part it out. I wanted $3000 for the car as is with my bad trans and was low balled all day around $1500-$2000. I said screw it and stripped the car. Glad I did, parted it for more than I wanted originally so I am happy I did. I still have more parts to go too, so its just extra funds to throw at my TL-S. Only thing is, I have been parting it for about 2.5 months and it took up a lot of room in the garage.
In the end you will have to look at what you owe compared to how much effort you wanna put into it. IT WAS A LOT OF WORK! But worth it in the end.
Here was my Journey!

Did you siphon all the gas from the tank before getting rid of it too?

youre not getting 2500 with a bad tranny, an 06 with that mileage is only about a 4-5k car in good order (at least around here). you might get 1500 if the car is in nice shape. 3500 for the trans sounds way high though, i had an mdx tranny rebuilt with new torque converter, external oil cooler, and 2 mounts replaced, for $2500
