Advice Needed: Power steering pump and oil leak
Howdy,
My 3GTL with 185K on it has a power steering pump and oil pump leak. Leakage is very slow but enough to make the bottom side of the car wet with oil but not much dripping. Less than one drip per 48 hours by my count. Acura obviously wants to charge a fortune at $1800 bucks to fix both leaks. I really don't want to pour any more money into it. I use this car as a road trip car at this point and I have a 3,500 mile trip coming up in March. Do you think if the leak is that slow, I will be ok on the road trip?
Thanks!

The largest issue is the oil dripping on something hot and causing an engine fire!
The Power steering pump can be rebuilt with about $35 dollars in rubber seals and about an hour of your time and patience watching a youtube video DIY!
The oil leak can be from a variety of places. With such a high quote, I'd imagine it's something like the rear main seal or oil pump seal leaking. Those are going to require a bit of labor which is a great thing in a way, you can do the 105K mile service (timing belt, waterpump, etc) at the same time since that stuff is taken off for the work for the oil leak repair.

Try to nail them down on the source of the leak. I have had an oil pump leak for about 4 years (at about the same mileage....I am at 260,000 miles now) and mine has been very minor like yours. I find the bottom of the oil pan damp when I do oil changes. Never need to add any oil. No drips in the garage. Acura wanted $1600 to fix and only offered like $200 off when they did TB, so I said no thanks. Has not been an issue and I kept the money. Many threads on similar leaks. Good luck.

I just had my power steering pump replaced on my 07 TLS. The pump was $527 and labor was approximately $166. I have the old leak also. Last year Criswell Acura resealed the oil pan. This year they told me the leak was still there so my oil pan must be warped. They wanted $600 to fix it so I left.

Don't throw parts at the problem, figure out where the leak is from.
Worst case it's the high-pressure power steering hose.
There's a recall, if it's been done already, check with Acura to replace anyways.
You can replace it yourself but it's a fucking PITA. Not the worst on the TL, but still bad.

If it is the pump, you can overhual it for very little.
The main areas of a leak are the HP power steering hose connection and the inlet hose connection.
HP power steering hose o-ring being the most probable.
You can buy a LLT reman pump from AutoZone / Advanced / etc
But it'll likely be a shit reman pump that's been overhauled and oversprayed with primer.
It's much better to overhaul your current pump, or just bite the bullet and buy a new OE pump.
