Advice on buying a used Gen3 TL

Hi,

Starting to look at buying a 2004-2007 TL. Any advice on issues I should look for while test driving? I tried searching the forums for a checklist, but didn't see anything. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

Get the newest model you can afford. Some of the 2004's and 2005's had tranmission issues.

Which transmission?

I'm leaning towards a 6spd tranny.
Actually, the reason why I'm looking for a new car is due to the reverse clutch in my audi slips and I'm getting quotes anywhere from $6,800 to $8,000 to replace. Last thing I want is another crappy transmission.

Yes.

Things to look for.

Rear wheel clunking over bumps (pass side for me). More noticeable at lower speeds.
Sun roof rattling.
Window rattles in general.
3rd gear grinding MT only. If MT make sure it's in good condition(no slipping) People beat on these more it seams but I love MT.
Dash imperfections.
Leather.
Make sure all the power locks are functioning.
Get a list of the previous maintenance. Get a list of the tsb's done. Like power steering hose that can cause a fire.
If it's over 100k make sure the timing belt/water pump has been replaced.
Make sure there are no vibrations at highway speed in the steering wheel and it tracks straight.
Always check the oil, brakes, and look at the rims for thrash marks.
Check all of the door handles and make sure the little plastic pieces are not about to fall off.
Make sure it hasn't been wrecked and fixed.

Don't worry about the tick tick sound at idle it is normal. The rough idle at start is normal as well.
