Advice appreciated! HUDs anyone?

So since the holidays are coming, I thought Id go ahead and get my present to myself!

Ive wanted a HUD ever since forever and the only ones I can find that look halfway decent are ones that connect to your OBD-II port. They are made in Taiwan and sold on eBay, and I know that is a bad scenario, but literally they are the only aftermarket option, besides using your phone as one...but that aint happenin.

So here are two links to what looks like the two best versions...they basically do the same functions, just with different looks and setups. Should I pull the trigger and report back or should I look for a different present to myself?

try it and report back.
the product in the second link is far superior as a disply of information.
the graphics being displayed are far better than the first.
I doubt if either will work satisfactory.

Well the way I drive, my hand / steering wheel covers up part of the speedometer and I have a hard time quickly looking at my speed. I figured I'd give it a shot, if I don't like it, I'm sure there's a lot of people on the Black Market who are in the same boat I am.

Have always wanted a HUD....give it that fighter jet feel lol, I will probably wait until I finally get my zo6 Corvette though

But if anyone tries one of these out and they work well then why not? sometimes wish more cars had them so you wouldn't have to keep looking down at your speed.

I used a free app once...calculates your speed based on GPS.

HUD is a pretty cool feature, im just not sure how good it would be as an aftermarket feature. On my Z06 Corvette I used it on a regular basis it shows everything from fuel quantity to oil temp, and it even has a shift light on it. You always know your speed and it is not obtrusive at all. With the OEM units it is built into the dashboard where as these aftermarket ones would look like you have a GPS sitting on the dash or something. Also, on vehicles that have OEM HUD, they have special windshields that are designed to reflect that projection correctly.

I think its cool and I say go for it. Worst case is its not everything you want it to be and you can always sell it to recoup your money. My vote goes to the second link as far as the ones go that you posted.

Youre welcome to try it, but dont expect great results. Most of those products are designed to work in theory, but not in reality.

I just watched those videos and seeing it unresponsive to acceleration and deceleration by 1-3 seconds would be more or less worth just looking down.

I agree with 4drviper. It's either the one he posted or nothing. Can't see myself paying over a hundred bux for something that loox like a microwave LCD display in a little retangle on the glass i.e. a cellphone screen. It's a cool concept aesthetically but in terms of real-time functionality, like IamaTL, I can just as easily look down at the needle in the time it takes the HUD to "catch up" to you.

The video caption clearly says it's not real...

PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING:
After many, many questions about how I installed this, if it's for sale or if it can be done in other cars, I want to clear one thing up:
This video is not real.
I used video editing software to create the illusion of a computer interface on the windshield of my car.

It looks great on the third video, looks like its part of the car, but I think just having that laying on my dash would bother me

No because in reality, that Need for Speed-looking HUD would have to be OEM to give all the info it has and project accordingly onto the windshield, and I don't believe there's a single governing body (domestic or foreign) that would pass a vehicle with this many distractions/obstructions as street legal.

My point is with all the HUDs I've seen in my time, yours is the only one that I would spend money on IF such a thing existed. The 135 HUD loox like the GPS Speedometer app on my phone.

So I don't blame you for letting your ego get in the way of your comprehension. I'm sure it makes your chest swell knowing you've created something that's duped so many. Good quality "editing" but don't count me among the sheep, bub.

I would just use a phone. There are free apps out there. I feel like its just a novelty since its so easy for me to see the cluster right below it.

I didn't make the video. Now read what you posted and imagine how you look to people reading this thread.

You may want to read the description of the video.

whoa, just so y'all know, i didn't mean to troll.

i don't need HUD to track down cars' make & model but i wanted to say, it's gotta appeaer OEM and cover more than half-a-palm size on the windshield.

I agree with some others who have posted, just get the torque app and an OBD2 connector.

It has a HUD mode and you can load it on a tablet if you want a bigger display.
