ACURAZINERS yay or nay stealership!!!!!
Good afternoon guys. i had some knockin and vibrating noise coming from the right side of the engine bay near the pulleys and belt.
took it to the dealer and they said my warranty was up for 2007 tl that i just bought last year. i had 66k on it they said it was up at 60k. neway he hinted to the fact that it could be the tensioner. he also said he wouldnt know to they took it apart in their book thats 3 hours labor just to get down to the problem diagnosed.
#DEAL OR NO DEAL?# understanding this did not including fixing it with the new part so basically he quoted the job at 760(yea like i said he hinted the problem that probably is the problem )
can you guys help me out on what to do i really dont have 760 right now but i dont want the engine to be damaged either. here is a video of the noise
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3iVC44qXFM
*the video doesnt show that the tensioner is vibrating
is this a job that can be done at home? and what tools will i need? Thanks

That sounds like shit!
Do you have another private shop that you trust to work on your car? It will most likely be cheaper to fix.

To do this at home, you need a new tensioner and belt.
A regular old metric socket set with 10-17mm sockets and a few various extensions. A metal pipe to slide over the socket to the release the tensioner.
To do it, find the right sized socket for the tensioner bolt - put the socket on and move it back with the extension towards the windshield... slide the belt off. Remove the bolts holding the tensioner on. Replace the reverse of removal. Pay attention to how the belt went on.
It is an easy job.
It might be easier if you take the power steering reservoir off first - you will need some standard pliers to take it off.
Where are you located. If you are near KC, I could do it for you in about 20 minutes. 3 hours is a joke.

No.
Just a regular socket or wrench will move the pulley so that you can slide the belt off. If you can get a 2 or 3 foot extension on it, it will be easier. I cannot remember if it is 14 or 17 MM.
I used a 24" boxed end wrench, but I doubt that too many guys have those laying around.

Maybe a local will do it for you while you wash and wax his car, or something. You might check the local forums.
If it is the tensioner, then 20 minutes is more than enough time to get it done. 3 hours is a joke.
