I bought an extended warranty through AcuraCare on my TL-S and paid $1665 for a 7yr/100k...after reading some posts about extended warranty on the TL thread on the edmunds car talk forum
...I realized that I paid a good couple hundred over "cost" / what others have paid...and being that I have 60 days to cancel the warranty and get a full refund, I was looking to cancel it and buy it back for a much cheaper price...from what I know the cost for the 8yr /120k is $1415...not sure about the 7yr/100k
I wanted to know if anyone else has purchased the extended warranty through AcuraCare on their TL/TL-S and how much they paid and for what period.

Acura dealerships don't tell you this, but the thing is, when your original warranty is about to expire, they will offer you an extended warranty offer at that time as well.
my friend told me when he bought his TL. You should ask the dealer bout this.

Yea you can buy the extended warranty, but the price is more for less coverage...example:
I checked the cost for a extended warranty on a 04 TL w/50k miles....the max extended warranty would be an additional 3 years/48k miles for $13xx
For a 2007 TL...the cost for a 8yr/120k coverage (additional 4 years/70k miles) is $16xx
So...basically you're better off buying the extended warranty while the car is new (<5k miles) rather then waiting till the end

I purchased this "Touch of Class" warranty where I get rim and tire protection, pain chip and dents protection, leather care, gap insurance, and coverage on my car till 120,000 miles bumper to bumper. I'n not too sure about the price, but I know it was expensive. And honestly I'm not too impressed with it.

Yes, this will be an AcuraCare Warranty. That was a question I had before purchasing. I called Tim McGilvray and asked all of my questions. 1-508-651-9769
While sitting at the Finance desk at Acura the lady asked us if we wanted this or that and the next thing. No on everything BTW. When she asked if we wanted an extended warranty I said that we sure did. Her eyes got really big as she pointed to the display that she had set up for pricing. I then told her that we would take the 8yr/100,000 warranty for $1150 as compared to her price of $3050. She grinned and said she couldn't do that. I replied, "no problem we will just buy it from another dealer then." She asked where I could get it at that price. I told her the website address and she looked it up on her computer. Steam came out of her ears in her frustration. She told us she could not match the price. She did not even try to come down from her price. She tried selling us a few more things with no luck. She then got to the real question of the day, "How will you be paying for this today?" My wife then pulled out the checkbook and wrote a check. It was a thing of beauty to see this Finance lady go from Ms. Personality to Ms. Bitch in an instant. She couldn't get us out of her office fast enough.

I did finance through Honda but what should have pissed off the finance officer didn't at all. I closed the deal in the evening but because I was not trading in my car I made an appointment to pick up the TL the next day (given a ride from a co-worker). That night I redid the figures and decided to put an extra $1000 down. He had to re-print EVERYTHING as they had it all prepared. He did it with a smile and it was a very pleasant transaction.

Space for Rent
Extended warranties have HUGE mark-up on them. These are just insurance policies that get bought/sold over time. Most dealerships buy them for $150-$200 each. My Dad is a CPA that handles the books for many different dealerships. Negotiate the price down if you are even remotely interested in one.

Very true...I'm thinking about either going with the 8yr/120k for $1415 or the 7yr/100k for $965, which do you guys think I should go with (both prices are very good and low compared to dealers in general etc) ?

blazinginder,
With the 2 particular choices that you listed, the 7yr/100,000 is the one to choose. Comparing those 2 together, you would be getting more bang for the buck with the 7yr/100,000 warranty. If you choose the 8yr/120,000 you are in effect paying $450 for an additional one year and 20,000 miles more.

Any help for us guys in Florida? For some reason the Acura/Honda Care warranty in not offered to Florida residents. It says that you must purchase an extended warranty at your dealer. I just bought a 05 TL 6sp w/ navi and was looking to get some extra protection before the factory warranty runs out. For the 39,000 miles on the car now, the dealer is offered 7yr/100,000 for $2550 thru Fidelity Warranty Services. The Credit Union that I financed with is also offering an extended warranty (7yr/100,000) for $1850 but on the back of their informatiom booklet says " replacement components / parts may include the use of remanufactured or like kind and quality parts." Any additional information would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

...BUT for the extra 1yr/20k miles which costs "only" $450 more, my only concern is what if this or that goes wrong after I put 100k on the car...like a problem with the engine or something else starts malfuctioning and is a costly fix

Same happened to me. I got the extended warranty from the dealer for $1900. I'll just cancel it today and get the same thing for $965... Thanks to this forum we are informed

soli that probably works best for you...I on the other hand have over 1600 miles on the car and it hasn't even been a month
...I'm sure the usage will decrease as the new car effect wears off...but I still figure that I'll put around 15k miles on it or more a year haha, hence my debate between 7yr/100k and 8yr/120k grrrr

Yes, you have to fill out the honda care application in order to buy/get the extended warranty, I've printed the form out, just waiting on my currenty extended warranty to be canceled so I can get/buy it through the online site/dealer for cheaper

I went in last friday to the dealership with all the necessary paperwork, and they signed etc and said they'd fax it out.
I called Acura corp. today to see where we were at...they said they're backed up right now and that I should call on monday by which time they should have my papers in the system, if the dealership didn't fax the paperwork in I'm going to be FURIOUS
The whole process takes a couple weeks and a couple more weeks for the check to be sent to you or the lender

Thanks folks for all the great information and advice. It looks like I did get worked a bit. I've been on the phone to Honda Finance and the dealer. Waiting to hear back from the general sales manager, but so far they've offered me $200 back, and say they can't cancel the alarm order.
Looks like my best bet is to cancel the extended warranty (for $2000) and buy it elsewhere (for maybe $1500 or less). It only saves me around $500, which is not worth a lot of aggravation, but right now it's the principle of the thing. I will get my $399 for that damn alarm back, and then some.

I've had the car for a month and 5 days...the car has 1,995 miles...not sure if its high because the car is still new and therefore gets driven more then usual or if its just the fact that its the main family car and used as a commuter for work ?
