ACURA TL-S ... worth that kind of money?

Hi guys,

I am a TSX owner currently and thinking about changing towards the Acura TL-S

I've shopped around and finally set down on one.

It's a 2008 Acura TL-S at about 38000 miles. Listed as about $28K.

After talking to one of the sales.. he agreed to give me the price of $28K + (don't remember) OTD.. with $5000 down, financing at 60mths. And $380/month.

Is that... a good price?? or too much for this?

Thinking that you guys have all bought TL's.. some of you guys with TL-S may help me solve the question.

Thanks in advanced!!!

Take your sales guy all the research on price and tell him to get your price in the right ballpark.

OP- what is the price before all the taxes, dealer fees and all that other crap. You said the OTD price was 28k (I think- I'm a little confused or reading it wrong) so it would be helpful to know what the price of the car is OR is the dealer asking 28k + taxes......?

$26,000. (before fees and taxes) would be a fair price for the mileage you stated...accident free and Acura CPO'd.

Yes, dealer is asking for 28K out the door after everything's added. So you guys think its still reasonable to be 25K out the door??

28K OTD .. is just ... 28K. that's it. Nothing will be added.

And btw, i got kinda confused a little while talking to two acura dealers.

first one --> the one that offers me the 28K.
I just need to put down 5K down payments. No co-sign needed.

2nd one
I definitely NEED a co-sign'er . @@
And told me that the 1st one was just BS'sing. and that there will be some other stuff going on after i get the car.

Cant wait to have you. I think all 3rd gens are great cars. If you want the performance of Type S and it's in your range, get it band don't look back. I wasn't even looking for a new car as I loved my 8th gen Accord coupe but the 08 TL-P w/ Tech pkg was offered at same payment with 40k miles. If the Type S is ending up out of your range the 04-06 6spd is almost as fast with same performance "I" think.

ok, thanks for clarifying. seems like a fair deal to me if it's 25.9 before x,y & z. Make sure you don't get screwed on the financing rate. That might be what the second dealer is referring to.

The $ 380.00 a month is BOGUS. That $ 380. equates to ZERO percent financing. Acura's factory program for CPO TL's is currently 2.9% for 60 months. That comes out to 412.26 on $ 23,000 loan for 60 months. You need to have a high FICO score to get this rate. I know of no bank (not mfr. financing arm) offering ZERO percent on a used car.

Here's some payment amounts on a $23,000 loan.

PaymentTotal Payments Interest

2.9% 412.26 24,735.60 1,735.60
6% 444.65 26,679.00 3,679.00
7% 455.43 27,325.80 4,325.80
8% 466.36 27,981.60 4,981.60
9% 477.44 28,646.40 5,646.40
10% 488.68 29,320.80 6,320.80

It's not about getting screwed on financing. If someone can't get the good rates, there's a reason. It's not the banks fault.

I actually told the sales guy that i'll think about it later..

and i'll continue to look around. See if he's willing to lower the price and give me a call. if not, then i guess, i'll just look for another one.

(heading towards the G37~)

You CAN get screwed if the finance guy is shady. I personally knocked down almost 2 percentage points on a Honda Financial loan for a relative. This was after the deal was signed and the car driven home.

whoa man that car is still there?? i checked that same car out too about 4/5 months ago. It has been there for a while. When i saw it, the sticker price was about 27/28. Try to talk them down. Theres a reason that car is there for so long... If i were you, I would just look around for other tl-s. Thomas acura had a 08 tl-s cpo with about 30-40k miles for 24,000. Too bad it was gone when i got there After I told them about the Thomas acura deal, they lowered the price to 25,500 before fees for me. I recently bought a 07 tl-s for 20,000 before fees with 60k miles just as a comparison. Just so you know, south coast acura's tl-s is the highest priced in the area. Just look around, its not that uncommon for tl-type s deals pop up around here.

Around here the acura salepeople will tell you that TL-S are really tough to sell. The general public doesn't care enough about the differneces to pay the extra money. They general public also does not usually like the wheels. Given, people that hang out on an Acura message board are not the general public and these observations were relayed to me from the sales manager of one of the Acura dealers in KC. In the end, the TL-S sell for barely $1K more than a regular TL and usually sit until the price comes down - they sell well below blue book. Somebody from a board like this who desires to pay to get the extra features are a salesman's best friend for the TL-S because they are among the few. Go in there like the general public and don't get giddy about the S upgrades - act like you would be just as happy with a base TL. If they car has been on the lot for long, and it probably has, then the price will start to drop.

You are in the drivers seat here. Be careful.

If you need to, shop a local credit union for the loan so that you have some leverage with the finance guy. If you get the cost of the car down to where it should be, they will make more on the financing (if they can screw you) than they did on the car. Don't be afraid to take a check in there from a bank and finance it elsewhere.

I paid 26k for a KBP 2008 Type-S w/ 24,800 miles. I also bought the AcuraCare warranty extension through CPO which was a little extra. I wanted KBP w/ ebony interior so I paid a little over my budget once it popped up.

For the TL-S that i m looking, because i m basically looking for only WHITE or BLACK, that's why there's not much options for me. And i preferably wanted to get an 08 too. lesser option for me as well.

Driving an 06 TSX right now, just wanted to get at least a newer years.

I think i actually lowball him too much then. I asked if he can do 24K OTD. LOL.

Well, for the 25.5K before fees you mentioned, after all these tax'es, i m guessing its around 28K too??

I guess, the price i m getting is about right.. Maybe, slight chance of knocking down a few hundreds??

And i talked to a guy at infiniti, starting with just telling them what I want. and they go look for me. I believe this way, I save the breathe on saying things like... can you go lower ..etc...

i told them 08 G37 around 30Kmiles, i want $30K OTD. (checked on KBB, Certified Vehicle about $30K too. (but i m thinking those prices thats given online are just before tax?)

They called back saying that they have like 5 cars that's 08 G37 with 40K+ miles that i can get it for $30K. OTD.
So, right now, they are checking for my APR. Then i'll go from there.

If that acura guy don't call back, i guess it's just the end of that car.. @@
And yes, i like the TL-S looks tho, even though they look kinda same with the regular TL's..

08' G37 with 330Hp - $2K more.
08' TL-S with 286HP. -

what do you guys think of that??

I paid $28K out the door for mine November 2010.
CPO with 24900 miles. You should try for atleast 26k out the door. Keep in mind TAX return season is coming up so they might be cocky abt prices.

Yes, tax is 9.75% in LA and Orange counties, so taxes + license = $2,500+.

Are you looking at manual transmissions?
If so, drive the G37 to see if you like it-- I couldn't stand the incessant shifter vibration. I prefer a quieter exhaust note too, so I decided not to get a G.

Actually, drive all the cars and see if you prefer one over the other before looking at the $$.

G/L.

Never actually drove a G's before. So yeah, I'll be doing a test drive if i go check it out. And i m still going to be getting just the AT's.
One of my friend told me that ... even tho G's at 330HP, they dont' really accelerate fast enough on freeways..
Did drove the TL before. (my customer's...)

I wouldn't be paying $30k for a car with over 40k miles on it. If they asking that for G37's, they are overpriced.

Do you thing the g37 looks different from the g25? Nope... Other than slight cosmetic tweaks in the 2 Acuras, there is nothing else different exterior. The G sedans don even do that...lol. G sedan price is too much if you ask me. If you are just gonna compare motors, then you need to dig a little deeper.

The price seems to be very consistent all around the area i'm in. @@

I went to infiniti just now.. and ends up nothing back.

There's the black one with 49K miles, selling me for $30K OTD.
When i checked it out, the paint on it's not even as perfect. i know it's used.. but oh well.

Then there's the white one with 53K miles, selling me for $30K OTD too.
Yeahh, this car's all good but.. $30K for a 53K miles??
They even show me their inventory prices. This 53K miles G coupe, they got in for $26K. And they wouldn't sell the car for any lesser than $30K. (I asked for $28K...)

Everything's gonna be a little overpriced at the dealerships. And private parties will be cheaper, but not safe enough. (I have no one to go complain to when there's problems)..

Anyway, prices are kinda hard to argue, seems to me. Carmax.com or dealership's websites... Same model, about the same mileage are all going for about the same price.

i believe that the 07/08 type s are basically the same car aside from some little cosmetic differences and costs less than the 08 by a good amount. Going from a 06 tsx to a tl is an upgrade nevertheless. My dad has an 08 tsx and i have a 07 tl-s and he admits that my car is the better one of the two. So your issue about years is irrelevant. Its the car as a whole that should matters in the end. G37s are really nice cars too. A buddy of mine just got his paid off. Interior is on par with the acura imo. insurance and gas on those are a little pricier if that matters to you. I would suggest that you shop around a little more. take your time and find the best deal. That car at south coast acura is at an average price-not much of a deal. When i was looking at tl-s's around the same area i found a bunch of WDP and NBP so just keep an eye open. I really wanted the KBP... Best of luck!

P.S the majority of tl-s i checked out were around 24/25k price range and i was searching about a month ago. I bet the cpo adds the price diff.

I'm sorry but being able to play mp3/wma discs and having revers cam standard are big pluses. Also my mom had 06 and the 07/08 are a touch more supple and more compliant with out a loss of handling. The fog light relocation is nice and rear brake light clusters are nice. The transmissions are hybrid from RL and it rev matches in drive. It's worth it to get 07-08.

I'd say 25.5k OTD but don't go to the sales rep but to the GM or sales manager directly. Say you know this car has been on the lot for months if not a year. They'll usually accept your offer. READ the contract carefully along with the loan papers. Used to work for a Acura briefly dealership as a rep.

Sorry, but those prices on G's with that many miles on them is laughable.

he said he'll try to make the deal happen.. if i can call him back.

but anyway, is kbb.com accurate?? i mean when i look up the price, its close to the amount tho...

KBB tends to be high, Edmunds is more true to market.

What year is the car? If it's a 2009, I would pass, 53k miles is way high for the year. Even if it's a 2008, it's still above average miles.

Quick Reply: ACURA TL-S ... worth that kind of money?
