Old news; this happened on 30-January-2019.

Did he have the clutch disable switch bypassed? How did it supposedly get started while in gear?

I thought he said that it "lurched" forward when the valet started it...
If I heard that right, then either the cutout switch was bypassed/defective or the valet let his foot slip off the clutch.
Or maybe he wasn't used to the high engage point of the TL clutch pedal and got surprised?

Ouch. That sucks. At first I thought it was just a stockie but a 6MT with all sorts of mods. RIP.
Headline is a bit misleading. They probably should have used a different word than "crushed". I thought I'd be hearing a story about someone being crushed in their car.

Not sure what Acura calls it but back in the 80's I learned it as a "neutral safety switch." It was designed to prevent a manual transmission car from being started in gear. Just as you mentioned the clutch needs to be depressed in order to start the car using the starter.

"clutch interlock switch" is the term we're all searching for. Pg 4-8 of the FSM

Worst thing is, insurance will totally screw this guy. Whether it's his own or the parking garages, they'll simply calculate it based on mileage. He might be able to fight for his upgrades if he has receipts but the chances are low. He'll probably end up with a several thousand dollar loss on a car that A. Rides better and has more get-up than 75% of new cars and B. Is worth probably double what he'll get based on his description of mods and upgrades.

the worst thing that happened to that car was the license plate on the back
Shame though, really nice car.
this conversation about insurance is making me think about switching my TL insurance for "stated value" policy... I don't wanna get 6k for my car, it's easily worth 8k!!

Well, I did say Stated value, but I should have been more specific and said Agreed Value. Common practice for classic cars or collectible vehicles. When you insure the car you say "my car is worth X to replace" they price you based on that (and some other factors I'm sure) and then that's what you get if the car is a total loss.
