acura tl oil change

I can't speak for my new 08 (its too new) but I would usually change my 04's at around 5500 miles. This is about the time the MID would hit 10% life remaining. Of course, this is for the TL base/Navi and not the TL-S. FWIW.

I would change the oil every 5000 miles max. The mid is a nice feature but I wouldn't ever go above 5000 miles even if it is synthetic. They are studies that oil filters breakdown after a certain time and miles. I drive 5000 miles a month and my mid says the oil life is at 40%. I change the wifes Lexus oil every 4 months regardless of how many miles are on it. You have to change the oil every 4 months. A lot of people forget that and only end up getting 2 oil changes a year. Thats a lot of old oil sitting in the engine. It's not worth the pennies you save on the oil.

Our 1st Oil Change came at ~4,500 miles (MID was <10%).

There is way to much paranoia on this site over oil. Change it when the MID tells you too, get oil/filter that meets the manufactures standards & don't worry about it.
My cars/trucks usually get swapped out at 120,000 miles or so & in 49 years of driving I never lost an engine following manufactures specs.
My BMW 330's MID goes about 15,000 miles between changes & my new trucks' change interval falls someplace between the TL & the 330. The current standards are all over the place but the 3,000 mile rule of thumb is long gone with the overall improvement in engine metallurgy, oil & filter technology.
Was a time you changed plugs & adjusted points every 5,000 miles or so now they go 100,000 miles & there are no points. The 5 speed auto on the Explorer I just sold did not even have a dipstick, It was sealed with a fluid/filter change due in the 100,000+ mile area.

besides, your not getting any added advantage by changing your oil as often as you do...

I use to do the 3K syn oil change on my last 3 cars.
It was fine, the engines never died, but the trannies usually went out.
Always ended up getting another car.
IMO I wasted thousands of $'s and left a 67% larger carbon footprint.

Hondas have a break in oil that they told us not to change tell so many miles..on the accord and tsx...what do the owner manuals say now? or keep it simple ask the service folks..

My wife has an 08 Accord and it's at 7000 miles and the MID still says 40%. I called the dealership and spoke with the service manager. He asked me about her driving, when I told him that she drives about 100 miles a day and 95 of those are on the freeway he said that the oil was fine and that I shouldn't worry about changing it until the MID gets below 20%...
I'm thinking I'm pushing my luck, what do you guys think?

The different sensors detect how hard the car is being driven. The easier the drive, the less stress on the oil.
You are not pushing your luck.

And no I don't work for Blackstone or any other of the companies (I actually work for a utility company). While I do like my toys, I'd be pissed to have to pay for a new/rebuilt engine, and we all know once you're out of warranty is when it'll happen and it'll be an uphill battle trying to prove the damage was from following the manufacturer's guidelines or the MID.

The dealer gave me a free change at 3,750 miles. Since then I've let the car say when via the MID - around 6,000 miles. Changing oil unnecessarily is a waste of resources. It can also be bad for the environment if you don't recycle.

This an issue that has been discussed many times here. Honda is the largest manufacturer of internal combustion engines in the world e.g. cars, motorcycles, lawn mowers, generators, snowblowers etc etc, and even make engines for General Motors. They are also a leading developer of Formula 1 racing engines. Their engineers say follow the MID and back it up with a four year warranty. Why we don't want to follow their advice is another question.

Two things, the BMW runs on pure syn & the change interval on the MID & in the manual is about 15,000mi. Another one of my cards runs an average of 10,000mi on its MID. I am sure the Honda MID which is set for dino oil & much more conservative will cause you no problems if you follow it.
I am amazed how many people are still living in the 1950's when it comes to oil change intervals. That being said if you want to change it 4 times a year enjoy, but maybe 6 times is better or 12 times better yet, except you might wear out the plug
Regarding the A & B service: Why run clean oil through an already dirty filter? Since the car is already being serviced another 30-40 seconds & a few bucks seems like a good plan.

I am asking if that is what Acura does...only change oil & NOT oil filter for "A" service. If yes, I'll either do the oil change myself or insist them change the filter too.

I guess it doesn't hurt to ask before they do it.
But who actually knows what they do to your car when they bring it into their service bay.
