Is this Acura TL day?

Hey gang,

Up here in New Hampshire Acura TLs are fairly rare birds; so rare in fact I only see one or two per week, regardless of generation. Then there was today, a bright sunny 65°F morning on the way to work; I saw two 2Gs, four 3Gs, and two 4Gs during my 22 mile commute.

Maybe I missed the memo which said "Show off your Acura TL on 06-Jul-2017."

LOL - Acuras are somewhat rare in NH, ME and VT partially because there are so few dealers. I think there are just three total in all of NH, ME and VT.

Yup, when I go to the Acura web site and query "Dealers", based upon my zip code it comes up with one dealer, Sunnyside Acura in Nashua; easily an hour from where I live and more like an hour and a half from where I work. Fortunately Acura parts are available online and there is Honda dealer a few miles from my office.

I know you recently acquired your TL, but did you get the original window sticker or any paperwork that told you who the original selling dealer was? Just curious.

Yup, the original window sticker is inside the Owner's Manual book; I don't remember if I ever even looked at the name of the dealer, but it was somewhere in Massachusetts. I'll report back later.

What's interesting about the CarFax for my car is, only the annual inspection was done in Mass, but nothing else is listed. Given how extraordinarily clean the car is compared to any other car I looked at from north of the Mason-Dixon line, I strongly suspect my car spent most, if not all winter, every winter, down south somewhere.

FWIW, I bought my TL from a small dealer in Storrs, CT.

That's a possibility as well, it was driven only about 10,000 miles per year by the original owner.

Every day seems like 3G TL day here in Northern VA... I see them everywhere I go, I drive past two parked on my street, and I was behind one for 30 minutes in traffic today.

It seems that MD is Type S territory though. I rarely see a Type S on the VA side, but over in MD I see them quite a bit. I went to MD to look at a black Type S, and a different black Type S pulled up and parked across the street. I passed on that one, then again went to MD to look at another black Type S, bought it, and passed a red and a black one on my drive home from picking it up.

Wow I didn't realize how few Acura dealers there were in NH. Quite the opposite here in Chicago.

I bought mine as a CPO from Acura of Peabody (MA) and it was originally sold at a dealer in NY, near Manhattan, but don't remember off the top of my head which one.

So basically no one lives in NH? All jokes aside, what I meant to say was it's quite the opposite in Chicago in that I see many 3Gs daily. Most are, sadly, and horrible shape, but there's a good group in Chicago with some nice looking 3Gs

I don't have the window sticker for my car but when I bought it (from a Mini dealership) I was living in Brighton (a neighborhood of Boston). After my first week with the car I went to the local dealership (a mile from my house) to get the sunroof re-greased and it turned out that the previous owner (who had the car since it was new) came to this very dealership for absolutely everything so they had the entire history of the vehicle (which I promptly copied). The best part was seeing that the previous owner did the timing belt there a year before I bought the car.

Same in Philly, I see them all day every day. I will never forget one of the first days I owned my car; I was still feeling the high of buying a newer luxury car that had decent power and a 6 speed trans. Anyways, I'm driving down the PA turnpike and it's three lanes. It's raining out so we are going a bit slower than usual as we approach the notorious 476 blue route exit where traffic backs up some.

I've been cruising down the turnpike about 10 miles, relaxing in my new comfy ride, chilling and listening to some bumpin tunes on this awesome sound system that must be so much better than these other cars around me. I look to my left as we slow down to about 40mph (which is crawling on the turnpike). I see an 04-06 TL just like mine, same silver color and everything. I'm like "Wow, guess this car is not that rare!"

I check out that TL for a bit and we are cruising next to eachother as we approach the congestion area. Traffic in the right lane for the 476 exit is completely stalled and not moving as we are coming to a stop and go area. We both end up stopping next to eachother. I look to my right. "Huh, that. That right there is another TL. Another TL that is an 04-06 in silver..." We are now three of the same car, same model year, in the same color, crossing all three lanes, door by door. "I bought the wrong car" I realize as traffic starts backing up behind our blockade and we finally move beyond the 3x3 3G TL line up.

I can confirm this. There are 5 other 3G TL's in my residential neighborhood alone.... I have yet to see a red one in the wild, though.

Well, Acura TL day ended perfectly for me; for the last several miles before I hit my driveway Stevie Ray Vaughn's rendition of Little Wing was playing; well turned up of course.

I'm about 5 minutes from Sunnyside, those guys know me well and have always treated me great. Somehow I was able to get on as a wholesale customer so their parts prices are very close to the online vendors. I agree, not many 2G TL's around here.

I just had a moment between meetings and walked out to my car to have a look-see at the original window sticker; it shows the car was shipped from the factory directly to Acura of Auburn in Auburn, MA. Whether they ended up being the selling dealership, or if the car was swapped with a different Acura dealership prior to the sale, I have no way of knowing.

Interesting - so it is likely your TL spent most of it's life in MA and well maintained in NE Winters.

I sure hope that's the case.

The only thing I know for sure is the previous owner was very tall. How? I drive most cars with the seat either at the rear stops or very nearly so; when I got into my TL with the "Driver 1" key, the seat auto-adjusted so far back I couldn't touch the pedals even if I pointed my toes.

There is definitely some truth to that, but not everyone. Not stereotyping, but more of an observation - They do seem to be very popular with the ladies that prefer the ladies

Not a fan myself. I know a couple of folks that have had some serious issues with their subies as well.

I really wanted to trade my TL in for a WRX. That is, until I drove the thing and realized how freaking cheap EVERYTHING was about the car. Also stock for stock the TL will walk the WRX. The reasons I originally wanted it were looks and the fact that it is a very modifiable platform. TL leaves a lot to be desired in performance mods. Also pricing is f#*ked up in the used WRX market.

I see lots of Type S in VA. Curious where in MD you went to snag yours.

Good luck finding a clean unmolested WRX. When my friend looking for a used WRX we found one with clean condition and so I advise him have a performance shop do PPI and well it came back the car was jack up on 19 psi boost with everything stock still instead of 13-15 psi stock. He end up buying a brand new one instead.
