Acura loaner car monitored??

Acura loaner car monitored??
I have an 09 TSX loaner and as I was driving it today I noticed an OBD2 plug dangling from beneath the dash. I pulled over and saw that it was connected to a box that was zip-tied to a harness. It looked like some kind of co-axial cables were going into the box from the engine compartment.
What can this box be? My first guess is this is a box to monitor vehicle activity, perhaps speed, rpm, etc. Not that I am worried or anything, bc I havent taken the car above 40 mph (upstate NY=icy)

its reasonable for them to record the engine rpm and max speed, and be able to report it instantly in some cases- with gps location and speed ...
thats great for your own car if you have kids- be able to monitor their driving remotely~
Loaners are just rental cars the dealer is paying for- whether its an acura or something from enterprise
Check most contracts and see- rental car companies are sending FINES to drivers for exceeding speed limits in their vehicles- its called abuse when you go 90 -100+

Yeah the Progressive "bodyshop" I have to take my car to always messes with my car. A few times, I reset the trip computer to see just how they are driving my car. I notice they drive ~4 miles and I get 5MPG average. I really hate Progressive policy about taking the car back to the "bodyshop"

I've told this before on here and I'll tell it again. I had my car in for service at the dealership where I bought my TSX. I was driving in the back lot trying to find a place to park it when I see a sales technician come FLYING around the corner in a privately owned TL. He saw me, jammed on the brakes and missed me by inches. Needless to say, I called the dealership, put in a complaint, and never let them touch my car again... So yeah, dealerships do beat the piss out of your car and the only way to know is to sit there in the shop as they work on it, which many shops won't allow because of insurance reasons.

you can stand outside the yellow line at the shop door and watch your car, but that doesnt cover the test drive~
When I was a tech working on sports cars, we took each one to 100 to make sure everything was ok. Figuring the average customer may hit 100, you need to be certain its all working for them!

I was stuck in Albany, Georgia one time on Business- I needed a car to get back down to FLA. Called Hertz- booked a Chevy Malibu. When I got to the counter they gave me a car that had been "misplaced" there in GA and needed to get back down to Dade County, FL. They gave me a free upgrade as if I was doing them a favor getting in back down South.
It was a 2006 Cadillac XLR- Hardtop Convertible. Nicest car I've ever Driven.
Engine : Northstar 4.6L V-8 32 valve DOHC SMPI
Horsepower : 320hp @ 6,400RPM
Torque : 310 lb.-ft. @ 4,400RPM
Transmission : 5-spd automatic w/overdrive
I beat the hell out of it.
Best ride of my life.

I am an automotive tech for MYSELF I drive customer cars slower than my grandmother on the way to a stop and shop.
Ive seen tech's abuse customers cars. For one my car has been abused by an acura tech and I had to file a complaint. (I work for a private shop)
Sometimes the customer hears a noise while doing 30 mph and making a sharp turn.. Well sometimes we have to do the same to get the symptom. We have a private lot that we can make these types of turns without causing an accident or driving reckless on the road.
I drive my car the way I want to because I own it, as for a customer's car I drive it slow ass hell and take the up most respect and care for their vehicle. I could careless if it's a ZO6 vette or a AMG benz making 500+ hp. Ive driven them all and honestly could careless about any of it. I get paid to find out the customers problem..

^Agreed. Many people I know think that if you have a car that is not yours, you should drive it like you stole it. I am a firm believer in "do unto others..." so I always tell otherwise.

More than likely it was a tracking device like the other member said. These things are neat the good ones are satellite based, they use them in the Mexico Baja races and Desert races so the officials and spectators can actually see the race in real time well slight delay but they know were every var is at any given moment. Interesting to see all the cars at the finish line after race is over or cars going home when they brake down and just decide to go home early. The bikes also incorporate G sensors to let safety personnel that there has been a crash.

But for who sucks more at driving, just follow the money trail, see who pays more for insurance, then ask yourself why.

In today's time any dealership is allowed to track their vehicles even if it means to also keep a track of RPMS/MPH

That being said, I have no idea what your response is trying to convey.
The question I raised is if young guys are better drivers why are under 25 guys paying more for insurance coverage then over 60 guys?
Unless the insurance companies are really evil & just out to get your age group for some unknown reason,it must be because you cost them more money in claims. Nothing personal, its just business.

Guys! Guys! Let's not argue.
I think we can ALL agree; Young, inexperienced, overconfident, immature drivers are EQUALLY as dangerous as OLD, geriatric, near sighted, slow Drivers.
Agreed?
Difference is: One will cut you off and drive 80 mph through your neighborhood- the other will cut you off and drive 30 on the Interstate.
LOL

i dont think they monitor their cars, as I could be wrong, I drive the snot out the loaners that i get, and have never gotten any hassles from the dealership, except for the fact that they damage my car, causing me to have to go back and rape the hell out of another one of their loaners ... hey a man needs to let out his anger somewhere
