Acura Extended Warranty - did I get ripped off?
Picking up my new 2007 TL-S from Serramonte Acura. They wanted $2700 for a 7-year/100K warranty with $0 deductible.
I got them down to $1600 but still feel ripped off.
Any thoughts?

If you plan on keeping it that long and it gives you piece of mind. Good deal.
I had a 7/80K for my wifes 99 CRV, didn't have to use it once. On my 93 Civic used it once for driver p/window, I think it was $700 extended warranty cost $1200.

I HATE Extended Warranties.
I hate paying for them and not needing them.
I hate not buying them and wishing later that I had.
I hate the exclusions.
I hate not knowing whether or not it's a good deal - until it's too late.

When I bought my 07 in July, the dealer offered it to me for $1400 and change, so I'll call it $1500. They also offered to spread the payments out over 12 months with no interest. I don't know if this is standard, but the dealer also told me that If we didn't file a single claim during the extension period, we'd get the full $1500 back. I still declined it.

I got the same warranty on my 04 TL - i paid $1500 for it...mine is getting a new tranny soon enough as its shutters from 3rd to 4th, so needless to say i'm glad i got it. For me, the pice of mind of knowing i dont have to pay for anything for as long as i own the car is worth the 1500. Plus it includes the TLC thing we get when new...Towing, pick-ups bla bla... Tow jobs can be upwards of $100+ if you break down...that adds up fast!

dvd drive for nav went out in my o6 TL at 35k. If this would have gone out a few months later, it would have been stupid expensive. I'm glad I got the extented warranty, are these transferrable? I plan on driving my car to 80k and selling it. It will be easier to sell with 20k warranty still on it. If not transferrable, i'll drive it to 100k.

I was offered 6/100 for $1699 and 6/120 for $2399.......they came down to $1499 on the 100 and $2k on the 120. I turned them down......figure I could extend it later on anyway.

To the OP....you were raped even at $1600. In this day and age, with so many dealers online offering EWs at low cost, there is no reason to get an EW at the dealer unless you can get said dealer to pricematch.
Cancel that part of the deal for your TL-S and go to some of the dealers noted in this thread. hondacuraworld.com (Tim) is a site vendor and I have personally purchased two warranties there. There are other places to shop as well.

Extended Warranty
Hi All!
Would appreciate some guidance from the community.
Have a '04 TL with $36K, was just offered an EW till 75K miles/4 years for $935 w/$100 deductible.
Is this a good deal?
Like most, not sure to buy it and nothing happens or not buy it and something happens!
Planning on keeping my car for at least another 5 - 6 years, unless I win the powerball, then it won't matter much!
Appreciate some responses!
Thanks!

6 yr 100k for $1000 $0 deductable
I got mine about a year ago because my best friend knew a guy in the finance office. got it for $1K. he said that at that price they were making $100. That seemed fair to me.
The ONLY reason i did it was because of the NAV system. I do not expect any problems with the car, but figured $1k for 6 years of protection was worth it.
The important thing is that it extends the factory bumper to bumper for that period, not one of those where you have to read all of the fine print & realize it only covers the gas cap & the windshield wipers on full moons:-)

If your going to get an extended warranty, get the one from the dealer. Its a warranty from Acura and behaves like the normal warranty that comes with the car. I had some bad experiences with an aftermarket one (Wynns), that I got from the dealer on my SAAB. The dealer I bought it from had no problems working the system for the aftermarket warranty, but other dealers or repair shops didn't always do it right and I had to pay. There were all sorts of rules about having to call in advance for repair approval and getting an estimate and certain things not being covered, even though it was "bumper to bumper".
That being said, I opted not to get the warranty. I bought the Acura because it is supposed to be one of the most trouble free cars you can buy, so I'm going to cross my fingers and hope I made a good choice.

i just bought an '08 and opted out of the extended warranty.
the factory warranty should cover me for about the first 3 years. i tend to flip cars every 2-3 years anyway so buying it doesnt make sense at this time. if i decide to keep it longer, i'll buy one in a couple of years.

When I bought my '04 TL new, the Acura Care extended service contract I bought was
$1700, 7yrs, 100K miles, $0 deductible, covers everything the factory warranty covers.
My car is still under the original warranty, so I haven't used the extended care yet.
My previous vehicle was a '99 Jeep cherokee. I had a similar warranty on it that cost $1200. It paid for itself 2-3 times. I guess I'll see how the Acura holds up.

I also declined the Extended Warranty on my new TL two weeks ago. Although now I'm very interested. It's kind of funny, the whole time I always felt I would never buy it on an Acura. My CL made it to 148,000 with virtually no problems (until the trans went out ).
Anyway, now I'm interested only because I think I'd like that peace of mind over the 4 - 5 years I'll be paying it off (and I put 18,000 miles on per year). Does anyone know if you can buy an Extended Warranty through a Honda dealership? Or is it just up to the individual dealer?
I wish my Acura dealer wasn't so stubborn about the price. The wouldn't go below $1,060 for the warranty they were asking $1,360 for. It finally got to the point today where they just said, "sorry, we can't help you".

The one thing I like is that a local Honda dealership here offers a warranty that is 100% refundable if you don't use it. My Mom got it on her Pilot, so I contacted them about the TL. Also, if you need work and you want to pay out of pocket, you can in order to keep the status at 'never used'.

I am trading in my '05 TL tomorrow for an '08 Infiniti G37. My car is two years old and has 44K miles, so it is still under the original factory warranty. At delivery, I purchased the 5 year/100K Acuracare extended warranty thinking I would keep the car that long.
There is a provision under the warranty for a rebate, but I can't believe I will get my $1,200 even though I never used the warranty, but we'll see. I'm calling them on Tuesday.

I think the 100% refundable condition is only at select dealerships (this was a Honda dealership offering this)...at least, when I was at Acura buying my car, they did say it is refundable (pro-rated), so it sounds like you might expect to get 65% back (if they only go by mileage)...who knows if they factor mileage and years together, but let me know what they say!

Where did you get the '500 over cost' in this example? I'm just curious because I've always heard as a rule of thumb (and based on experience), that you can usually get the warranty for 50% off the list price - and they're still making money. Which would be true in your example.
In this example, if $1600 is $500 over cost, that would mean cost is $1100, right? So, you can take off roughly 60% to be at cost ($2700 x 60% = 1620. $2700 - 1620 = $1,080).
I guess what I'm getting at...is this an overall formula? They wanted $1,360 for mine, so their cost would be roughly $544, correct? (this is a 5yr/100k mile). I offered $680, but they wouldn't do it. I guess dealing with Acura isn't the same as Honda or previous American cars I've owned....
