The engine will not bolt to your transmission; you will need a different engine.

You'd also need a different ECU. The ECU between the 04-05 is different than the 07-08. Unfortunately, I think your best bet will be to get an engine from a 2007. I believe a 2008 will also work but I'm not certain.
With some cars, the engine from any one of the models in that generation will work. The 4G TL - any engine from 2009-2013 will work (assuming it's the same size - there were two different sizes). But the 3G TL had an ECU for 2004-2005, a different one for 2006 and a different one for the 2007-2008. So at least three different ECU's. And I might be incorrect with the 2007-2008. Those might be different as well, making it 4 different ECU's. Not certain on that.
Either way, a 2007 in a 2005 is going to be a no-go.

On the hardware side, yes. I was concerned about the ECU differences. I'm guessing it wouldn't be a problem since both use the same tuning software. It's one of those things I'd make sure was compatible before I pulled the trigger.
