Acura DVD-A Demo Disk in a DVD player
Has anyone else tried playing the Acura DVD-A demo disk on a DVD player or a computer with a DVD drive?
No big deal, but it does play on them, and it shows photos of Elliot Scheiner durring his intro track.
songs are also played with photos of the album covers.
There is also a write up on how XM works on the radio that matches the womens audio on the disk (track 25).
Have fun!

I was a bit disappointed in the sound quality when played through a DVD (not a DVD-A) player. The sound from the DVD-Video-Audio seems to be poorer in quality than the DVD-A-Audio. I like the visuals and the sound animation with the "cartoon" TL though.

I guess they figured people would try it on a home DVD unit?

mrtech, I understand that, point is, it has video on it, but the car can not play the video portion. Kind of strange they would include this (at a cost might I add) since you can not use it in the car.
That is my point.
That is my point.

Tread - I believe this is for compatibility. If you look at the size of the ts_video folder, it is smaller than the ts_audio folder. This might explain Yaaro's post that he finds the audio quality lower on home DVD players. BTW, I can use DVDXCOPY to backup the TS_video folder only of a DVD-A disk. If I burn it to a DVD and play it on my home DVD. The resulting DVD does not play on the Acura.

Lore,
I am aware of that. What I was not expecting was the seemingly poorer quality of the DVD-Video-Audio even when compared to something like that on a movie sound track. Of course, my perception may be colored due to the superb quality of the DVD-A-Audio on the TL!

That's probably because the DVD-A streams are different than the ones played by your set-top DVD player. Regular DVD players will play the DVD-V's DD 5.1 compressed stream which is different than the DVD-A DD 5.1 stream.

They may have compressed the audio tracks on the video portion of the DVD too heavily. Sometime if I'm really really bored I'll see what bitrate they used on the AC3 stream.

My century mark. Sorry guys, nothing to add here except just trying to get the century mark out of the way.
I did try playing all of my DVD-A through my home tv and most of them just showed some snap shots. My peter frampton does have two live video tracks with poor sound quality, but rare indeed. I thought that was a pretty cool gem.
