Acura Certified

Can someone give me a quick explanation on the Acura Certified..So if I buy a car from a non acura dealer, it wont be certified..And I would only get the warranty that is left on the car? And if it is certified, from the point you buy it, you get like 7 yrs 100,000 mile warranty...A bit confused one how all this works..Thanks

You were correct with everything you said, except the certified part is 7 years/100,000 miles from date of first registration, not from the day you buy it, and I think only covers the power train, while the original 4 year/50,000 mile warranty was bumper to bumper except for wear items.

No- many used Acuras at Acura dealerships are NOT certified; the certified cars go through a checklist.
IIRC, maintenance has to be through dealer service departments before certification is granted, so those Acuras that are maintained by the owner or non-dealer shops will not be certified when traded in and sold as used.

Not True. My accord didnt see the dealer except for warranty work etc...it showed up on the dealer lot as Honda Certified when I traded it in....

They run a bunch of test on the Car, if the car passes the tests it can be certified, if not then it will be on the lot without the certification...

This is true. The TL I purchased from an Acura dealer was not advertised, nor classified as Certified. We got their price down $2,000 , then as one of the bargaining points, I wanted the car Certified, which the dealer did without an increase in price. Right now the dealer also gives 3 months of XM radio.

Certified will give you the remaining factory warranty, plus the addition of 12 months/12,000. So you have a factory warranty 5 years 62,000 miles. A Certified vehicle will the take the coverage to 7 years 100,000 miles on the powertrain. I elected to add the $895 to take the bumper to bumper factory coverage to 7 years 100,000 miles. Can never tell about electronics.

Check out www.acura.com for all the info on a Certified vehicle.

Depending upon the asking price and cost they have in the car, you'll never know until you ask, but you'll need to make a decision as to what's the bottom line price you'll pay for the car. I'd try and talk the price down to a point where you might be able to pick up the parts and do an install with the savings rather than try and have the dealership supply the parts and do the install as part of the transaction.

Even if they furnish the parts and have their people do the labor, they must add this to their bottom line cost of the vehicle. FYI-The used car department will be charged the same as you for the parts/installation. I know this might sound unusual, but all departments within a dealership must make money, therefore the used car department on paper will be charged the going rate for the mentioned items and installation.
