Acetone as a fuel additive?

Aside from the weight reduction and maint. items, IS THIS VALID? It seems dangerous to me. I have a feeling this would wreak havoc on our engines.

you dun reckin right on this one!
Dont put acetone in the TL- is far too valuable for that nonsense

DO run a quality fuel cleaner in the gas every 5000 miles. BG44 and Seafoam come to mind
The Ethanol they put in the gas now- is leaving large amounts of residue and byproducts we dont want hanging onto the valves and pistons or injectors

Stop! Halt! Do NOT pass Go!

I actually tried this in my 2000 Explorer 4.0 SOHC for several weeks. This was based on largely positive results posted by users on http://www.explorerforum.com

Contrary to what many reported, I found it reduced my gas mileage. Plus there is an on-going concern about acetone affecting fuel system components made of rubber-like compounds.

Its all about when and how fast the material ignites.
Gas is 87 octane at the refinery- then additives are put in to delay combustion- control knocking and raise the octane number to 91, just before it goes in the truck
