2007 is much more improved over the 2005 model and I would certainly get the 2007 over the 2005. Better radio, slightly softer suspension than 2004-2006 for 2007-2008 3.2 TL's. Also it doesn't look as dated and all the parts are going to be 2 years newer.
Also the transmission was changed with the 2007 model year to be WAY MORE RELIABLE! I would honestly get the 2007-2008 3.2L model.

Are you sure about the transmission upgrade? Would it apply to Canadian models as well? If so I definitely would want an 07+.

Yes all 07-08 TL have a different transmission compared to the earlier 04-06 models. It's a shared transmission from the Acura RL.
Some say it's "bulletproof" but i can't say how true that is.

only bullet proof if owner taken care of their vehicle, I saw many BMW 5 series get the AT replace also. Most people don't take care of the AT maint then launch like race car and beat to to hell with three horn freeway racing then come here and complaint "my trans start slipping" Unless you bought the car new and take care of stuff then if the AT slip that is a shitty design. FIY my mom 2000 Accord V6 4spd AT is most vulnerable and yet now has 155k miles WITH original AT no slip or hesitation during shifting. Also my brother in laws bought his TL brand new back in 06 which now has 130k miles and again STILL on the original AT. I guess it partial fault on Honda for using the crap Z1 along with 60k miles for first time change.

My 3G TL lost it's tranny at like 60k and 102k.
The tranny (pre 07', don't know about the newer one) is a piece of crap.. Better fluids will help, but it cannot overcome a crap design... (I used redline in the 3G TL) The problem with this tranny, is that if you are cruising in 4th gear, and the car needs to shift directly into 2nd gear, it will drag the 3rd gear clutch pack, which is the cause of the tranny failure. The only work-around that is proven to work, is to never allow the ECU to do a 4-2 shift. Instead, you must force it to do a 4-3-2 shift instead, which is only possible if you use manual mode, or have paddle shifters. If you are in full automatic mode, you are SOL, and just need to avoid hammering the gas while in 4th gear.
Every single one of my friends with a 3G TL has had at least 1 tranny failure in their TL.

I bought 2 TLs brand new, (2G and 3G), and did a 3x3 tranny flush every 20k miles, and changed the pressure switches regularly as well. With that being said, my 2G TL lost it's tranny at 31k miles and again at 64k miles or there abouts.

My 06 TL is at 173k on original 5AT with no slipping or any issue I can feel.
And it wasn't owned by enthusiast either....a old lady that bought it new and had the cookie cutter service at the dealer every year or so....Z1 ATF too every 60k miles it seems.
I did an immediate 5x3 ATF flush and afterwards learned about the superioroity of the Redline ATF so next year I'll likely start doing 2x3 or 3x3 Redline D4 drain/fill with each oil change to slowly convert everything into fully superior synthetic. Otherwise it shifts smooth and nice so far. 3rd/4th gear switch also changed earlier this year.

No, the last time the tranny shit on me, I traded it in for an MDX in a fit of rage, since it had a different tranny, and we were expecting our first kid. I missed the TL so much tho, I tried to buy my coworkers TL a while back when his tranny died, but it fell through, becuase he ended up just fixing his TL and keeping it.

Got a new one!
So I bought another TL today. It is in very nice condition. Not perfect but very good for 200k. Its am 08 base w navi. My old old was an 07 base w/o navi so this is nice for me. Great mileage so far.... Says 6L/100 k which is aroumd 39 mpg apparently. That was the deciding factor in going with the 3g TL again... Plus I found a nice one I liked in great shape.
